Kya Safe Hain Hum?

We had recently reported about a robbery that took place on Kyunki's sets last week in Kandivali in which few actors lost their precious items. We spoke to a few actors and different production houses to find out how safe (or unsafe) are our sets.

Gautami Kapoor (Tulsi, Kyunki)

"We don't have any security. The only security we have is that nobody is allowed to enter or exit in our vanity van. Also, we keep the van locked when we are shooting and ask the security guys to keep a watch on it. They are the only ones allowed to go inside the van or my co-stars if we are sharing the same van. But we prefer taking basic precautions as nobody listens to security guards on the set. We have to keep a check on our belongings and the production house also tries the best to make sure that nothing untoward happens. But it is true that such kind of incidents do take place."

Hiten Tejwani (Karan, Kyunki)

"Guards are always present on the sets and they keep a check on outsiders. They do not allow anyone to get inside easily. I do carry my expensive stuff like my phone and all on the sets but my staff keeps a watch on it continuously. I always see to it that my vanity van is locked and make my boy sit outside it. But I have not had any bad experience in my career as of now."

Kiran Karmakar (Om, Kahaani)

"There is no security on the sets. Guards are definitely there but they just guide where to park cars and all. They never even check whether artists' cars and vans are locked or not. Basically they are required to keep a check on all unknown faces hovering around the sets. But visitors patao them and enter the sets. Our valuables are in the van so we ask our van dada to look after it. I also take some precautions. I do not carry much cash and expensive stuff on the sets. I am not talking about any particular production house but this is the overall scenario. There is no security system and every studio puts a notice board which says the artists have to take care of their own belongings and if they lose something the studio management is not responsible for it."

Khitee Jog (Saraswati, Ghar Ki Laxmi)

"The studio watchmen are always there at the studios where we shoot. Moreover production people are also there to keep an eye on outsiders. Initially, there were lots of incidents of stealing so we complained to our production house (Creative Eye) about it.

Now they have strictly instructed spot boys and others to keep a check on every unknown person on the set and not allow anyone to enter without the permission of the actor or the production house. They have provided locks and keys so whenever we go for a shot we lock our rooms and keep the keys with us. I do not carry my valuable stuff on the sets. Since we generally go by car we do not need much money. Whatever I carry I give it to my hair dresser and she gives it back to me after the shoot or we give it to one person and he locks it in a trunk."

Sanjeeda Sheikh (Ayesha, Kayamath)

"We generally shoot at the same studio and there is no problem as we know the entire unit and crew. Our unit member and spot boys keep a check on everything and everyone on the sets so there are no worries about it. I am working with Balaji for the last two years and I have not had a bad experience at all. I am familiar with all of them and I think that is why there is no need to take any precaution even if we are shooting outdoors."

Sharad Malhotra (Amar, Banoo Main Teri Dulhann)

"I do not think there is any need for security on the sets but yes if we are shooting outdoors then we do need it. Our production house (Shakuntalam) does that. When we were shooting in Banaras there was too much crowd and the production house had to take security from local police. I do carry my expensive stuff like watch, phone, wallet and all but I give it to my boy who is always with me and he gives it back to me after the shooting."

Ketan Gupta, General Manager of Balaji

"We provide lots of security on the sets. Wherever we shoot we keep guards at every entrance of the studio and even if we are shooting outside we make sure that there should be enough security on the location. We hired our special security guards apart from the ones provided by our studio management. They remain on the sets 24 hours and work in 3 shifts. We do not allow any person on the sets without prior permission from our actors and production heads."

Executive Producer Abdul Karim of Sphere's Origin (Saat Phere, Grihasthi)

"Normally we hire our own guards on the sets. They work in 12-hour shifts and know their job completely. They will never allow anyone to enter the sets. Our unit also tries to be alert. When we shoot outside the studio, security is always present."

All in all, actors and production houses take lots of precautions and try to avoid robberies, but still such kind of incidents do take place as it is very difficult for them to keep an eye on such a vast location and on every outsider. Some studios have many entrances and even unprotected places from where anyone could easily peep inside the set.

Actors feel there is not enough security...production house claims that they are providing security..... 😆 .....but anywhere in world, we have to take care of our own stuff. But it is true that by bribing the guards, and with some connections, one can go inside the studio.
