That's not rape. At best it's attempt to rape. But any guy would feel irritated if suddenly the woman refuses to have sex with him, after setting him in the mood.

WOW...did you just give an excuse for an attempted rape???

Considering that you call Raj a pervert ......and a molester....I don't understand how you could justify his behaviour with that girl....I mean nothing absolutely nothing justifies it.

And then after the threatening she “agrees”... you don’t think that’s rape?? 🙃🙃

That is no excuse to threaten a woman with a KNIFE!

A girl can refuse whenever she wants... let alone before the act has even begun (like the poor girl in KS)... even if they have already started having sex and either party refuses in the middle but the others carry on, that’s still classed as rape!

Honestly you saying this despite being a woman yourself makes me wonder if your trolling 🙃😶

I’m shocked at our generation tbh... hero who is shown drinking in excess, smoking, taking drugs and having tonnes of casual sex is “modern” and “edgy” (never mind if he harassed, rapes and beats girls)...

But hero who just says a couple of traditionalist dialogs (but is constantly loving and respectful towards heroine and her family) is “problematic”...

How shallow and ridiculous.

If characters like Kabir Singh are shown on screen that’s fine, as they are entertaining and interesting to watch in their own way... but don’t show their behaviour as correct or acceptable like the movie Kabir Singh did!

A perfect ending to KS would be if in the end Preeti told Kabir she has decided to stay with the nice, normal guy her family found for her, and they’ll be raising the kid together as Kabir’s jobless, drunk, druggy self is not the kind of father she wants for her child!

The better lover is the one who is most considerate towards their partner.

DDLJ obviously didn't age well. The movie does not connect with many youths today. And yes it does have problematic elements like a forced arranged marriage, a patriarch who calls all the shots, deference to the patriarch, problematic notions like honor and virginity, and a hero who did engage in some problematic behavior.

To be honest, I don't find Raj misogynistic or perverted. He is an incorrigible flirt and there is nothing wrong with that. Yes, some of the things he did are less accepted today - but that was true of many characters in the era. Even Joey Tribbiani would meet more resistance today.

It was annoying that Raj did not elope with Simran when both she and her mother thought it was best. From one perspective it was dismissing their agency as women. On the other hand, her father's approval and Indian family values were important to Simran. During the Eurail trip, she mentions this to Raj several times.

Eloping would have been easy to get married, but it would have burned bridges with Simran's father. She probably could never go back home till he forgave her. She would have been estranged from her mom and sister too, having to meet them on the sly without the father knowing. Even if it was her choice, this outcome would have left Simran heartbroken. By trying to win over her father Raj isn't ignoring Simran's agency as a woman, but he is trying to ensure that she doesn't have to be estranged from the people she loves. Sacrificing people we love for love is never an ideal choice and it's best to avoid it.

You also have to see the film for the cultural mindset shift it created for parents. It softened the notion of women falling in love. It encouraged parents to accept their kid's choices and realize that there was no shame and dishonor in that. While the movie resonated with youth of the era, the plot device to win the family resonated with families and parents too.

Finally, Raj did not sleep with Simran and that's important. Throughout Zara Sa Jhoom loon main she is completely hitting on him. The song is basically her indicating her interest in a hookup. She's obviously into him but holding back because of the expectations on her. But she was drunk for the first time in her life. She was acting on her inner desires without inhibitions. He knew that and didn't take advantage of it. Of course, the whole honor and virginity bit was too much.

Kabir Singh had a violent and volatile personality. He got angry at the slightest things and lashed out over it in dangerous ways. He always wanted his way and had people around him mortified all the time and coerced into submission. He even attempted to rape a woman at knifepoint. He pretty much has the traits of men who engage in domestic violence. What is shown as romance in the movie is what psychiatrists and social workers call "grooming."

So even if Raj is problematic too, he would still be a better lover because he is considerate. He is willing to work in communication. Kabir Singh is totally self-centered and you never know when he might have a violent outburst.
