In USA well as they say...they have no idea what rest of the world is let alone India.

The ignorance from both young and old never surprises me anymore.

Hell, we even have Nargisi Kofta, our own version of Scotch Eggs. 😆

Oh i’m aware about Vindaloo, but it’s marketed like a popular curry eaten nationwide which most Indians are actually clueless about.😆

Not Vikas Khanna, he only has Mich Stars in US no? Heard great things about it. I meant the likes of Bombay Brasserie, Gymkhana etc. Though might I add Bombay Brasserie branch in SA literally served me one sev puri as part of their dish.😳Yehi problem hai yeh hi-fi restaurants ka 😤

Prominence doesn't matter. Own culture is what everyone focuses on.

I don't know of any ethnicity that isn't represented in the U.S. Practically speaking, they cannot be expected to know about all.

Also, Indians are a teeny tiny minority in the U.S. no matter what Bollywood would have you believe.

Prominence matters the most. Absolutely. The more prominent an ethnicity in a country, the more people know about their customs and traditions. Their way of life. In fact, the purpose of representation is just that.

Ofcourse they cannot be expected to know everything but the average American doesn't even know the basics. Even geography wise. I have worked and have American friends who are as educated as you can get them, living in highly diverse places and yet having no clue about the basics. The trope of an average American being ignorant is not wrong lol. Some even take pride in it for some odd reason.

And I don't base anything I say about Americans or desi culture in the west based on Bollywood lol.

Nope sorry, that’s lazy. It’s like saying South Americans are all the same when they’re not. The fact that they don’t understand basic concepts of continents blows my mind. There are literally 7 continents (Asia, Africa, Europe, North and South America, Australia and Antartica) I’d argue pretty easy to distinguish? So do they think India is its own continent? I promise you the average educated Indian is able to distinguish which continent a country belongs to much better and we don’t even have “people come from all around the world” as you said.

Yes they do.

I’m not an Indian, but I was asked exactly where was Pakistan in MIDDLE EAST...

I tried to explain it near China and India...

That person seemed mind blown that Pakistanis and Indians are as much Asian as Chinese...

Rather that than the fake ass “Indian” food they get fed. Like wtf is a jalfrezi and how many Indians actually eat a vindaloo?😆The Indian Mich Stars be killing it, finally showed them there’s more to our food than the crap being served on Brick Lane by people who ain’t even Indian.🙄

I made pav bhaji for my classmates once and for them it was something very new! They didn't know Indian food mein ye sab bhi hota hai. Pura khadhai chaat ke khaye they 😆
