Hope they realize there are more than one southern state and Madras (now Chennai) is just one city in Tamil Nadu, not every South Indian come from that one city

Why do we all love our whataboutery so much?😬Can’t we just do better? 🤷🏽‍♀️ Tum ignorant, toh mujhe bhi ignorant hi bana hai. If we really want to start indulging in that, are South Indians aware that Maharashtra too is not just Mumbai and Bollywood? Like I said, let’s do better.

Okay then Southern Indians are no better

The point is it’s the same everywhere, we cannot be bothered to learn about our own country and Americans are expected to know about people all over the world cz people from all over the world come here

BTW if U think Americans have poor knowledge of geography and the rest of the world now, it used to be much much much worse pre 911

When I was in NYC, I met a lady who asked me to not hold the umbrella by the metal but by the plastic handle as it was raining & lighting. We walked from memorial till Times square and she told me how much she was fascinated with India, but she bitched a lot about Chinese. She must be cursing them even more after Corona😆

Similarly south indian considers all north indians to be illiterate and outsiders. I still can recall people created a lot of fuss when Bangalore metro put directions in Hindi and ultimately they have to remove them.

PS- I love south Indians, more sophisticated and less nosy

I was going to say this. So many have really no clue about anything south Indian.

In the U.S., at least in the part where I live, they think every Indian is either a doctor or an IT person or a Bollywood star 😆. It's more that the ignorance level is high. The few times I faced prejudice were 1) from an immigration officer 2) after 911 someone thought I was Arab and 3) from an ABCD with roots in north India who said something about the south.

I’d probably argue the average Brit probably doesn’t know much about religion full stop. Other than a very rough idea about why Christmas and maybe Easter is celebrated. They probably know more about easter eggs and santa claus than they do about the birth of Jesus and the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. IMHO religion doesn’t play the same role in the UK as it does the US.

Having said that, there’s no denying they find Indian culture very fascinating. From colour runs that now have nothing to do with Holi to Urban Outfitters selling Indian kurtis and “accessories”, to our “butter chicken and garlic naans”, they love our culture.

Yeah everyone wanted to know about butter chicken and garlic naan 😆

But a few wanted to know the stories behind Holi and Diwali since I was in traditional wear those day and it peaked their curiosity.

No, Omanis 🇴🇲 know a lot about 🇮🇳

I agree! Most omanis I have worked with have had incredibly detailed knowledge about India. Most of them are Bollywood fans especially Shah fans 😆 They are also incredibly friendly people and would come to your aid with immense gusto even with things that many would consider just a not so nice experience, part and parcel of city life for a woman.

Let me share an incident. During my first visit to Muscat for work, after returning from lunch with some friends and colleagues,I decided to walk to my hotel. I wanted to check the markets and had my car/driver on standby. It was an amazing experience except for this one incident where I was catcalled. Now any woman travelling solo would have bunch of such stories. Its the reality. Usually I have bodyguards from the company for not so safe countries but I didn't think Oman needed that.

Next day, I mentioned it offhandedly to my colleagues and they were so angry on my behalf. Then one girl just called her police friend and he immediately visited me. Apologised to me, he gave me both his official and personal number to call incase I face anything untoward again. Such a gentleman.

Two years later I visited again, this time on vacation and guess what, the policeman called to checked in on me.

I love lots of love for Oman! 💛

Okay as I said in my previous post ‘North Vs South’ was not the point of my post

It’s to show how people are the same everywhere, it does not mean it’s right though

Problem for the U.S. is it has so many ethnicities, and everyone cribs about Americans not knowing anything about their culture.😆

How much does the average Indian know about Nigerculture ture or Romanian or Filipino life?

Not to brag, but Indians have a much better knowledge of Geography compared to Americans in general. Heck, most countries are better-educated about the world than Americans.
