Actually, for the kind of movies these nepo kids are doing, I doubt they need to learn acting.

Someone mentioned life experience..yes actors need life experience, they need to learn from what they see and feel..but I wonder if these nepo kids SoBo life is any different from what they'd do in NY ..from what one sees of them in interviews, they don't seen to be the kind that would go and explore a different life, esp when they know there is a tailor made script ready for them back home.

Else, there would be a universal marketing strategy too for each brand. Likewise for acting which ultimately is an art transformed into a commodity for business. My dialogue delivery, sensitivity, human experiences, jokes, anecdotes and the evolution process as well as technique in acting will be very different from an American or British person. So, yes, emotions might be universal in human species but expression is certainly not!!!

We have great film schools in India too with great legacy.

I always feel that geography, language and culture play a huge influence on acting.

so going to fancy schools abroad in the name of art could be a pre propagated notion that ‘oh Videsi’s are teaching us better’

Emotions ARE universal.

As for expressions thereof... a Mumbaikar will express differently from a Tamilian and from a Goan. A Sikh will express differently from a Muslim woman and from a Christian nun. A PhD will express differently from a chaiwalla.

The Indian (or foreign) institutes do not teach by numbers so the students will know how to do each role. That would be impossible to do. None of this is teachable individually at any acting school, Indian or foreign. What they teach you to do is observe, listen, imbibe, react. They teach you technical points like camera angles and voice modulation.

Think of it as an art school. The innate talent has to be there, but the school can teach you how best to mix colors to get the effect you want. Afterward, whether you do a Picasso or Ravi Varma is up to you.

Also, re: the type of acting taught in such institutions. If you ask the graduates, they'll likely say their acting has more in common with those who graduated from Western schools than with Bollywood. I mean, would you say Naseer had more in common with Pacino or Rishi Kapoor? Irfan with Hollywood acting or with Ranveer Singh?

There's nothing wrong in doing the course. It's not going to hamper their existing skills.

Earlier people used to do theater before entering films. Now, nobody does that. So, let them at least study something related to acting.

Again, doing the course doesn't automatically make them a bankable actor but at least it will give them some credibility.

Star kid's parents have a lot of money. It's a rage to send their kids abroad for learning acting skills or other stuff to make sure they are getting good quality education.

To work in bollywood, you don't need to go abroad to leaen acting skills. It can be taught easily in India. But for learning technical aspects, like film making, camera skills, VFX etc, America/ Europe can be more proficient in it.

Being out of India would at least let them grow up in peace and make their own mistakes and learn without being scrutinized 24/7 the way they would be in India. Nobody would know them there so teachers won't care whose kids they are. They won't have to worry that people are just being nice to them because they have movie star parents. They can make friends and date people without the media and country being involved and making mean comments. It gives them a few years of anonymity while growing up which is important in itself.

The best place in India is FTII but it's competitive and merit based. It conducts entrance exams followed by interview etc. Admission process is tough and highly competitive.

The entitled brat star kids need luxurious life and easy to pass course. So they go for paid NY school. No one cares how they perform and they come back to brag about it although they fail to get audience response.

Most of the accomplished actors from our country have been trained in the govt institutes like NSD, FTII Pune or Chennai.

However there are notable exceptions like Dilip Kumar Sridevi Rekha who have not received any formal training but learnt their craft and perfected it while on the job.Their natural talent was groomed by some very talented film makers. So one can say that they have received informal training.

Majority of the actors who came from these institutes do have naturali inclination towards performing arts and these schools helped them hone their skills.

So one cannot say that formal training is of no use.

As for being trained abroad I don't think it makes any difference whether one is trained in India or elsewhere. Acting is all about conditioning one's mind to emote. There may be differences in expression of emotions based on the person's culture etc but acting schools basically train people about how to focus on bringing out the emotions of the character and how to get under the skin of the character. So one cannot say that being trained in foreign institutes doesn't help.

There are some filmmakers in south India who have studied film making in USA and they combine Indian emotions with western sensibilities very well.

Formal training is never a waste.
