Where did SRK go wrong?

I always felt SRK is a great actor and yet, his acting in Bollywood movies except 2 or 3 movies has been sub-standard. I feel he hams a lot in some scenes and gets away with it. His potential is enormous but I feel Bollywood reduced him to caricature of a romantic hero and he never really transcended that.

As an outsider, maybe he wanted to establish himself at any cost and he did that in the 90's and early 2000's. But later he got caught in his own trap and with age, he could not diversify into different roles which matched his acting caliber.

His script sense is bad and I feel he hasn't been taking his craft seriously either, especially in movies like Zero and Jab Harry met Sejal.

Compare him to Aamir, and I feel Aamir is wayyyyyy smarter than him when it comes to taking risks and challenging himself with each role he takes on. This, despite my firm belief that SRK is actually a better actor and has more organic stardom.

Nowhere.. not everyone has a smooth transition going from one phase to another

Nothing lasts forever

SRK went wrong in choice of movies

Doing similar roamnce roles again and again

He aged also very badly

Akshay saved because of transition to comedy than patriotic movies

Salman transitioned from rich boy roles to common man roles

Ajay transitioned from action to comedy movies

But SRK did not transition at all

He should start acting his age, pick sensible roles. Mostly he looks like he is stuck in the past.

He has had decades of superstardom and still enjoys the position of one of the top guys of the biggest movie industry of the world. I bet so many guys are looking to see where he went wrong so that they could have what he has.

Becoming a romantic hero, which was the biggest reason of him becoming a Superstar, was also the biggest reason of his downfall. Romantic heroes always have shorter self-lives compared to action-heroes or Superstars who do other genres. Even Rajesh Khanna didn't survive, then who is SRK?

Nobody wants to see 54 year old SRK doing romance with actresses half his age in candy floss films. He got trapped in his own image. Audience wants to see the same young SRK of 1995-2004 era doing the same romantic films. But he can't de-age himself. He's old, and his films can only work now if it has good content.

But he doesn't have the same filmmaking skills and script sense of Aamir, so no matter what he does, he messes up things more than fixing it whenever he works behind the camera.
