Agreed. Considering that she can make anything about herself, this will be handing a platter of newsworthy content and victim drama for lifetime

Atlast, I’m glad that the fake news industry is facing the music. Personally, I feel it’s more appropriate if they were sued by the Rhea’s family or Disha’s family. But, single individuals or families cannot take on a powerful industry as news media. They have powerful bully pulpits with strong political connections. Only an another powerful industry like BW can take on them. They also have powerful connections and with money to spare.

Petitions against Udta Punjab(which was then supported by BW) actually become legitimate now. (You can't generalize an entire state with drug problems when you can't stand the generalization of your own industry.) Hell, someone from Mirzapur can actually go ahead and file case against the makers of Mirzapur for defamation of their town and that will be considered legit.

But those films and shows are fiction ...even if they are made to create awareness like say Udta Punjab was ...there were facts and research that backed it up including stats on drug usage and crime rates ...they had that in the film too to create awareness

What exactly are the facts And stats that Arnab has apart from “kanagna said” and “this what’s app chat ka screenshot”...that’s grounds enough to call an industry scum? Udta Punjab raises awareness but never called Punjab as filth or scum or anything derogatory...it just highlighted the existing problem with facts backing it up..but presented as a fictitious story / characters
news channels didn’t raise any awareness about drug usage with this..all they did was drop names with no backing

I haven't seen Udta Punjab or Mirzapur so can't comment.

& Yes BW shouldn't generalise too.

The difference between Freedom of Speech and Slander is clear. News channels are specifically called out for latter, not for reporting facts.

Every movie has their disclaimer in the beginning about fiction to save their behind. Yes, they get defamation cases still like the Beyoncé song that had to be replaced.

I urge you to an recent case on an media channel. It aired a programme on the increase of Muslim candidates in the IPC cadre and invited that they are trying to spread taliban style in police department. Someone filed a lawsuit. The SC ordered them to not to air the programme and had to pay a hefty fine.

Dude, I'm not saying that they can't be sued. I'm just saying that there is no metric when it comes to defamation. Today these people are being sued for using terms like 'filth' and 'druggie' for BW. Tomorrow anyone will sue the other reporters for using words like 'fascist' or 'Nazi' or any other term. What if one has a thin skin and a lower threshold when it comes to these things. He/she can also sue for defamation and slandering. There is no metric to decide which words are more 'defamatory' .

BW by all means can sue whoever they want. They have all the rights to. They might even win the case. It's just that it might end up causing more harm to them than they might expect. That's all.

Acha hi hai, all these fools need some regulations, be it news channels or BW. High time.

Same for Ranbir. The channels made drug charges against him but in his case, they are true so how is he going to join in? There are interviews out where he talks about his drug use so what can he sue about?

Saif also stayed out. Same for him. There are interviews where he talks about his drug use.

Priyanka is a bhakt and I don't think anyone would have asked her to join anyway.

But Deepika is a glaring missing name. She should have been there but whatever.

I think the guild didn't push the PHs that are naam ka PHs. Priyanka's PH usually does the presenting thing. She gets a whiff of some potential award winner regional film, she offers them to promote the film as a presenter, so the guild didn't approach her. Same with DP's, Ranveer's, Ranbir's, Saif's PH... first two were opened for show off and to hide waning remuneration (I got 1/3 of my market price coz I am a co-producer, sharing 0% profit with the producers) the last two are inactive due to huge loss of money.

I heard Kekta didn't sign.
