I understand what Sharpener is saying.....you cannot equate....its like saying that All lives matter or white lives matter to counter the BLM movement......its just that in this instance it was OK as they were doing the impressions of others too and not just the blacks, they didn't single the blacks out....people need to see the difference and not judge everything by one standard.

No it won't. People need to get educated and sensitized about history of Black people. Blackface is never okay, period. NO matter the context.

Oh my god I can’t believe people here are saying it’s “okay”, so freakin ignorant.

It’s not okay, it’s never okay. Even if their “intentions” was not to offend it is still offensive. They were playing off stereotype of black people their hair, their bodies, dance. It’s all offensive, people here will get offended by Appu in Simpson, stereotypical Indian accent but this totally fine because it’s all good in fun??

Also you can do Impressions of black people without doing black face, if that were the case why didn’t they do whiteface for the cowboy sequence??

Black people have told us blackface is deeply rooted in racism and it is very offensive and that is why people have stopped doing that. And people who have done it in the past have apologized because they were wrong. I am surprised people still defend this type of things and make excuses for it.

But isn’t that the current norm? That it’s offensive regardless of the intention?

Btw it’s always been offensive in America but many US celebrities, politicians, Canadian politicians get away wit it

That wouldn't be discrimination or racism because blackface itself is racist. You would be furthering racism if you do that caricature of black people.

Further, the solution isn't to magically treat people equally. Black people have faced systemic abuse for far too long at cost of opportunities, progress, etc.. So if we just make everyone "equal", it changes nothing because black people haven't developed at the same rate as white people.

Think about it this way (and these are just random numbers, don't quote me on that).

Let's take a period of 200 years.

From 1-200, white people have amassed wealth, live in good areas, got great educations, wonderful opportunities, etc.

From 1-200, black people were consistently poor, they lived in gang/violence areas, education was poor, and thus, opportunities were poor.

Now in the year 201, let's say that there is a new law saying that everyone is treated equally.

If a white person and a black person go to compete for a job at Company A, who do you think is more likely to get the job? The educated white guy, or the not so educated black guy.

The white one, obviously. So the way to make up for this is to give preferential treatment to the black people to actually make it equal.

This is a good image representation.

shutdown tourism on Twitter: "this ain't it. the boxes are liberalism. communist liberation is the abolition of the fence.… "

Of course, the end goal is the riddance of the systemic barrier, but that is something that will likely take decades, if not centuries, of progress (and I doubt that will actually happen TBH).

Asians(Indians, Chinese), Nigerians (the most successful immigrant ethnic group in America) do so well in academics and economically

What could be the reason 🤔
