Filmmaker who blends knowledge of market and craft?

Who are the filmmakers who have formidable knowledge of market and craft both? Who in other words, is both massy and classy? Loved by junta and critics alike? Is there anyone like that in Bollywood?

I can think of Raju Hirani. His movies are extremely entertaining, but also liked by critics and so-called "classy" audience. Lage Raho Munnabhai and 3 Idiots are loved by all, and probably cuts across the usual divide of "mass" and "class".

Sujoy Ghosh, another underrated director, is somebody whose movies are usually big hits like Kahaani and Badla, and rakes in the moolah without compromising on aesthetics.
