Was KZK2 Doomed From the Beginning?

Look who's back?🤔 Never mind, I was discussing the show with a dear friend recently (more pining/groaning/violently protesting that we want Parth out of this mess😆) and it got me thinking whether this show ever had a standing chance when its own creative team didn't understand the very essence they were trying to bottle in the first place?

Will try and not talk about the first season, since comparisons are not allowed. However, since the post will be incomplete without discussing the nuances that S1 had and S2 blatantly lacks, I'll keep it concise and say this:

S1 wasn't about Anurag, Prerna or Bajaj. It was about regret, pain, and redemption. All of these, facets of love. I think one of the reasons S1 succeeded was because nobody knew what will happen next. You didn't have a story on day one. You didn't put a character on pedestal on day one. Every character mattered. And, every character was given its due. It worked the way equilibrium does in a free market. People fit into places and over time the perfect balance for characters/actors/personalities emerged.

If there was one thing I truly enjoyed was that one character didn't overshadow the other. Which brings me to my main point.

Has a set, defined storyline ruined KZK2? Forcing characters/actors into unnatural molds and predefined overarching premises ruins the equilibrium. Parth's Anurag, no matter how flawed and butchered, is NOT S1's Anurag. He is equal parts selfless AND selfish. He may be a giver but he's also someone who doesn't let destiny choose for him. No matter how demented, messed up, or destructive his choices and decisions are, he CHOOSES rather than have things chosen for him. In most scenarios, he IS the driving force behind a story line in the show.

Prerna on the other hand, is NOTHING like ST's Prerna. So, when you all of a sudden force her into a mold that fit S1 Prerna like second skin, she feels fake, unbearable. WRONG.

Bajaj on the other hand, Oh Lord, where do I even begin? The one character I looked forward to. The one character butchered so mercilessly. Bajaj just doesn't fit. And, that's the problem here.

Tracks don't flow. They screech across the floor. Characters don't grow. They transition into entirely different people from one scene to another. There is no economics at work here. No equilibrium. It's all so forced and artificial that there is nothing for the audience to connect with. Nothing there to root for.

Perhaps, if they really wanted a reboot this season with a different story, they should've gone ahead with making Prerna the thornbird of this season. Maybe instead of a male BAJAJ, who's nothing but a trophy husband at this point, they should've gone for a female version, a grey shaded character someone who could've brought some much needed spice to this show. Because as far as I'm concerned, this season ANURAG > PRERNA.

At least that would've been new (on that note I'm just gonna go and drool over Parth and Aamna's chemistry oomph)

Plus they should've shown Anurag Prerna married to each other FOR SOME TIME! They were in S1 and that period set the base for their entire separation.

Anyway, so if you were to predict/write the reboot, how would've you written the story? Even if you were rooting for PreRish, how would've you balanced the 'eternal' AnuPre lovestory? interesting takes only! thanx😆

You're absolutely right when you say that it's cvs failed to understand the essence of their own show. The different facets of love that we saw in the previous season is completely missing in this one. And the sooner this show ends, the better. I'd very much like to see Parth in a well written role so I can go back to drooling over the absolute perfection of male specimen that he is.

I think many factors contribute to the failure of this reboot. First would be committing to a storyline even before the show actually began. Anurag and Prerna are like train tracks that can never meet. So they can never win. They'll never get together, their ship won't sail so what's the point of rooting for them except getting frustrated. Then they have a set story so we know that major tracks from previous season will be repeated. There's no mystery at all. And then the show tried to save itself by casting big names but then didn't support it with good writing.

Oh my god, can we talk about the writing for a second? In KZK2 all the kasautiis in Anupre's lives are people trying to get married to one lead or the other. And I don't even want to talk about the different types of marriages that this show created. One-half shaadi, deal shaadi, dullah unconscious shaadi.. And that Howrah bridge cringe 🤮🤮.

Also, these people wrote the stupidest character in the history of characters. Prerna Sharma. Whose solution to every problem in life is marrying it. Does she get off on decking up as the bride? A marriage junkie, perhaps. I don't understand why anyone is interested in Prerna. TBH though, I could see this Prerna work if she was not based on the S1 Pre who didn't need any man in her life. She was sufficient by herself. Every trial and tribulation in her life made her stronger. But the writers gave us Prerna 2.0 who plays yeh mera pati hai with Komolika and now, needs a bloody speech from Bajaj turned Sandeep Maheshwari everytime something goes wrong with her fake revenge plan. Uggghh, how I hate this Prerna!

Anurag is 1000% better written than Prerna but knowing the kind of character she is, that isn't saying much. He is also illogical and stupid. Parth why did you do this to us? Get out of this mess ASAP. I'll give all my money for making KY2 Season 4.

And if you think these two character were terrible, the show makers upped their ante with AnuPre. Who are everything that people in love shouldn't be! There is nada communication between the two, no understanding at all. But all of this has been said before.

Now, coming to the reason why I am in this shitfest. BAJAJ. If anyone needs a guide book on how to ruin a character, watch the Bajaj track. The cvs didn't even bother with building the character. They just got KSG to play Bajaj and that's it. Didn't even write him good scenes. He is so not needed in this show. Especially when the cvs were so disinterested in giving him a proper character arc.

Ugghh this show is the worst. And the saddest part is that it doesn't have to be. If only the cvs had invested on developing all the characters, investing on subplots and keeping the essence of the characters intact instead of constantly changing things at the drop of the hat. One thing that I'd have steered clear of if I was a creative in the show is the old tracks. Everything predictable should have been chucked straight out of the window. And there should have been a lot of trope subversion. Also, I think the story of kzk suffered from the exit of Hina and KSG... They should've definitely brought Komolika and Bajaj in the story a lot earlier than they did.

I can unfortunately answer your post only as an anupre fan so my response may seem biased. But nevertheless, here goes.

I think, and I've always said this, that kzk2's biggest nemesis is the fact that it's a reboot of an old show and not a new show by itself. So when this happens, it naturally comes with some expectations/ dislikes. And when the expectations are met the show is well received, and when the dislikes seem to get repeated, the show is rejected. This is in a nutshell what I have observed in the last 2 years.

So if today, hypothetically there was a chance to reboot this reboot, so to speak, I would do away with komolika and Bajaj completely. They were completely new, iconic and deserved to stay in the past. Nothing like komolika was seen, when she entered our TV screens in that electric blue saree, twirling her hair around her fingers. Same with Bajaj. When he was introduced in s1 an anti-hero or grey or whatever you call him; a character like him was never seen before. This is what made these characters iconic in the original. What made anupre iconic was their love story. 2 lovers who never meet but die together. So when the purpose was to reboot this love story, their characters should've been kept and new Kasautiis should've been brought. Kasautiis which had no connection to the earlier season. And therefore no weight of expectations or dislikes. This is the reason why the nabeen babu track is till date the best track of kzk, both in the eyes of fans as well as in terms of ratings. Because it was fresh and new. And because there was no weight of a blueprint, the makers had free rein with him and did a gab job of a comic villain.

Long story short, IMO, it's the repetitive Kasautiis that killed the show this time. The repeated attempts to try and fit a grown foot into a smaller shoe. So I would've never introduced komolika or Bajaj. Atleast komolika, being an outright villain did add drama. Bajaj added nothing. He was brought without any idea or head or tail to the character and he continued that way. And that shows, all the way through.

The rest shoddy story, worse writing, even worse execution. The list goes on. If it was not for parth and Erica, and the fact that they just clicked as anupre, this show would've not survived 2 years.

Maybe the grey shaded character that you are talking about could have been aamna's sonalika. I think in mid season they had one opportunity too with sonalika as new grey character but......shark attack and plastic surgery was must in Ekta's world to force komo back on screen.

I think this reboot lacks organic transition of tracks and leaps and fighting spirit.

Sudden deal marraige -> plastic surgery -> memory loss -> push from bridge.

Forget about organic transition they don't even sound logically right in 2020. This entire sequence compromise the very base of old characters and new introduced ones connect. Its just forced on you without any logic.

Seperatation can be painful but beautiful too that you feel sad about it but still curious too about the uncertain future that awaits. Here to one party it lookes like why do you even need this speration between anurag prerna with such lame excuses everytime second party can they even be together where thestart it self of new realtionship/marraige looks so illogical.
