I would like to think that people like you & me, folks who are interested in knowing what's really happening behind the silver screen of Bollywood, are a very tiny minority. I would say thousands of people. Max lakhs (i.e. hundreds of thousands) maybe.
I think the aam jantaa wouldn't care about anything other than the movie and its entertainment factor. Which is only fair to them.
Which is why this movement or boycott (I'll personally be losing out on watching movies I consider more nepo than usual) may not really impact the cash coffers or viewership stats.
Yes, people like me, who are disgusted by the dirty games, will not forget it. Many of us will carry this grudge within our hearts. Unfortunately, it'll be just that. As KJo & the nepo-gang laugh all the way to the bank (already Jahnvi is being pushed into my face on every newsportal, while I didn't even hear anything of Lootcase).
If, however, you are right. And if Bollywood is really losing its shit. Then regional cinema has to capitalize on it. Its now or never!
Forgive me as I digress a bit more:
I think South has really protected their cinema (maybe because of less inroads made by Hindi). Marathi cinema (which arguably birthed cinema in India via Raja Harischandra) is highly underrated (watch Killa or Fandry as a sample, both on Netflix I think). Punjabi & Gujarati industries keep churning out good movies as well. Bengali cinema, once glorious, doesn't have that "buzz" anymore. I mean they still make good movies, last I watched "Saheb Bibi Golaam" (and you can imagine my extreme shock at seeing Swastika in Paataal Lok & Dil Bechara 😕). I'm a Bihari, and the only Bhojpuri movie I've seen in my life is "Nadiya Ke Paar". Due to the Hindi belt, Bollywood has completely wiped out regional cinema there. Maybe if Bollywood shuts down, people like Prakash Jha will come back to Bihar and start making movies in my native Maithili (very nascent industry). Pipe dreams... 😆
