With theaters not opening and more and more movies streaming on OTT, do you think now it will be a level playing field for all actors irrespective of their "star" status?

I for one, want the system to change and in a way, I am happy that no movies of stars are releasing in the theaters instead all of them are given the same OTT platform where a movie like Bulbul, lootcase gets as many good reviews as a big-budget star movie

Also, do you think there can be manipulation and power play in OTT platforms too?

Can the power players dictate and control here as well

In an ideal world, yes. But the bollwood mafia thrives on public adulation, so they will try every trick in the book to get back their "star status". If the public momentum continues though, then it will be hard to accomplish this.

You have too much ego for people to give up on star power. There’s people who want to rule and will do favors for others so people they want to see rule Will also do so. Everything is about power, and having The Desire for stardom is really something that no one will want to give up, esp those who have tasted it.

I hope all this changes, but it won’t. People will just get greedier and more hungry by the time the theatres open, because as of now I’m pretty sure none of them can handle the current situation, especially those who are being targeted on nepotism. insecurity is what drives the power play imo.

Emm who said star power doesn't play a role in OTT?

How would you explain that there are certain Youtubers who are superstars, while there are others whom nobody knows.

There are instastars who get so popular they get movie offers, while others aren't even looked into.

There are tik tokers who are getting television shows and music videos, heck even movies, while others don't.

What is the most watched show in Netflix? Extraction, a action movie, which criticises had mixed views about.

What is the most watched movie in Hotstar?

Houseful4, before Dil Bechara took over.

So this level playing field is same and all that talk is idealistic, stars are stars everywhere.

Every platform has stars, people who garner more attention than others, and that is not always has anything to do with the so called talent.

Indie filmmakers are already complaining of negative changes for OTT in the west, soon we will see this same impact. There will always be power players, irrespective of the medium.

It's about content, star casting, making sure it's more mainstream so it gets more views. The bigger the streamers have gotten the more they're like the big film studios.

Streamers used to be a haven for indies and while there are still opportunities there are a lot more restrictions and more competition from bigger star driven product.

Just look at the top viewed web series and movies from the U.S. and who are headlining them. 80% or so are movie stars or former movie and big TV stars. Names sell.

The current big news for streamers in India? Aamir, Hrithik, Akshay, Ajay possibly signing up to do a web series.

I somehow feel OTT is a blessing for movies which would not made it had it been released in the big screens in spite of being a good movie

Like for eg: Bulbul wouldn't have got as much positive reviews and WOM and visibility if it had been released in the theaters, coz when competing for screens, it would have hardly got any. because power-play players would have got more for a Gunjan Saxena or a big-budget movie.

I feel it gives a level playing field in comparison to movies released in the theaters. It's not controlled by the power-players in Bollywood but controlled by OTT providers who make the decisions.

Yes, they could be manipulated as well. But in comparison, it better than theater release and you have stars in the same playing field and non-stars and content emerges the main focal point more than anything.
