It's actually very difficult to find a good psychiatrist. This notion that just because someone is a psychiatrist, they will be good only is weird. Not every doctor out there is great and the same applies to psychiatrists. If anything if one is seeing a psychiatrist then one of the most important elements to someone being a good psychiatrist apart from their knowledge and expertise of course is how they communicate with you. What questions they ask. The fact that anxiety in one person or depression in one person can look darn different at times from someone else is precisely why it is so important that one finds a good psychiatrist. Someone who understands your needs, your struggles, your history with meds and other illnesses you might have, your background and what you do before prescribing anything.
Not trying to pass a blatant judgement here but some of the stuff that I have across is that his legs used to go numb and shiver, that he used to be sleeping for the most part. Some of this stuff makes you wonder what meds was he being given and what was his dosage. Symptoms like your limbs shaking happen if you have been taking certain meds for a very long period of time and that too if the dosage is high as some of those meds have that as a side effect. The fact that he had been taking meds since the latter part of last year yet was already experiencing these symptoms and was still apparently continuing with it raises some questions here with regards to his psychiatrist.
How much agency did he have over his treatment. How often did he go to see his psychiatrist. So no...not every psychiatrist is good. Just like not every doctor out there is good. You can be a professional and still not be that great at your job. Just speaking from a general point of view. I wish the folks who have talked about mental health so much with regards to this case also delve into what that entails and how in a country like India, it is so difficult to even at times access a psychiatrist, forget a good one. You at times have to be darn privileged to have access to a good psychiatrist.
I agree!! Not every doctor genuinely care about their patient. Many just want to give you medication and they do not care about patient history. I believe one must do counseling therapy before take any medication. Even taking Anti Depressant medication has so many side effects and should not be on for long. There are many other methods that you should try. But I believe you must find a good counselor who is willing to work with for the first 6 months and make a plan what to include and what to avoid to find the healing. For that you need to be very open to your counselor so he/she can find what is the root of your anxiety.
I am also saying this that what medication was he taking? was he taking anti depressant medication? or was he taking some very strong medication that patient take for bipolar or other serious illness? If the medications was not working for him, then he should had went back to the doctor and told the doctor that it is not working.
