I don't see him obsessed with Bondita as of now. I am still very confused regarding his pov. He probably just feels the little girl is being wronged here and trying to help her out and fight for her. And the way his father or family is behaving anyone would feel angry and hurt. And after baba fiasco he is being extra careful and protective towards her. And somewhere doen the line he has this sense of responsibility towards her that he needs to take care of her as he promised infront of villagers.

And he also has flashbacks of that Britisher taunting him, so might be he is trying to give her a good life and sees it as a way to fulfill his mission of woman empowerment.

But i wouldn't deny he cares for Bondita, a lot more beyond normal and also is proud of her tarks i guess but atm its just that maybe. In future they might have much deeper bond
