He would have never made it. This man has not seriously produced or directed a full fledged film for a long time. He seems to be on Twitter waiting to jump on any latest controversy than focusing on his work. Don't be fooled by him! He got paid for the pre-production whereas SSR didn't! He only cares about himself.

But he did made good movies in the past and he is a good director. He was appreciated for his work in bandit queen, Elizabeth and Mr. India. You are right he has not done movies in a long time. And you might be right about him being selfish.

He’s notorious for starting projects and then leaving them midway due to “creative differences”

Like someone said, his focus seems more on riling ppl up than actual work

There was earlier a film with priety aswell which got shelved ....before that time machine

He semi directed barsaat and left midway

no doubt his existing films which he managed to complete were good...
But this leaving films midway constantly reeks of unprofessionalism

Yeah true. Thats why he keeps on talking about these 2 movies and its heroines only! I blame him for getting all this noise about SSR because he started it but left out the part where he never planned to stick to that project in the first place! And also the part where he got paid but didnt botehr to share the money with SSR. Bahu kanjoos hai yeh aadmi, like Kangu would say 😉

You have a good point.

Shekhar has been planning this film since around the time he left to make Elizabeth in the late 1990s.

Vivek Oberoi was attached in the early 2000s even though Shekar later claimed he wrote it with Hrithik in mind.

At Cannes in 2010 Shekhar said the budget would be $30m / 225 crore. At that time Danny Boyle and Hrithik were attached. Later YRF came in to finance/produce and Hrithik cleared dates for the film.

Three years later Shekhar swapped SSR for Hrithik (who he said was now too famous/too old as if he wasn't in 2010) with the film reportedly about to go into production. SSR cleared dates.

Two years later in 2015 that production price was most likely higher than $30m but with an on paper less bankable lead all the while pre-production with attendant costs (mostly going to Shekhar) dragged along.

It's not a shocker that YRF pulled the plug. I'm only surprised it took them so long.

By 2020 the production price would probably make this among the most expensive films ever made in Hindi cinema and Shekhar says he wants young non star leads. Who would produce that even if he could finally get started?

He couldn't make the movie when he was alive. Now using sushant's name to complete the movie
