That era is over.

Their name adds to a project when other big names are attached but alone they flop and their only rescue is when the WOM is extraordinary but that is the same thing that for anyone.

All of them in certain extent except Kangana.

Voted for Kareena because all her films except GTPM have opened well in the past decade. Even her solo movies like Heroine (+7 cr. in2012) and VDW (+10 cr. in 2018) opened well.

Sadly none of the actresses can give solo hits the way their male counterparts can. Bollywood is stacked against their favor.

Kangana's Queen is a very loved movie by many, and when Manikarnika released, it also managed to have the highest opening weekend collection for a female-led movie. So Kangana does have the power to draw people to theaters, as much as some like to deny it.

Highest opening day for a movie driven solely by a female is actually Veere Di Wedding so that goes to Kareena.

Most of the top actresses can open a mainstream movie (VDW, Mary Kom, Stree, TWMR, Raazi, etc) at least in the same way that Ayushmann, Kartik, Sushant, etc can. They are probably capable of opening even better if they had bigger budget movies with more mass appeal but as you said, producers haven't taken that risk till date.

word of mouth publicity works for feel good/ patriotic movies. That was the reason Razi become hit. No one can deny the fact that Alia is famous among young generation especially among girls but that is not the segment which will bring a lot of fortune.

Veere Di Wedding was not a movie where only one actress did the heavylifting. It was not just Kareena's. It's a multi-starrer unless you're discounting Sonam, who is another big name there. Yeah, it's a female dominated ensemble but crediting the movie to Kareena alone makes no sense whatsoever.
