Why are all the top directors signing Alia?

Is it because Karan Johar is arm-twisting them?

Or is it because they want a bankable star and Alia fits the bill? Directors and producers want bankable stars. They want a guarantee of a hit. Right now she is the guarantee.

I think you are right but it can't be only because of that.

I completely and absolutely endorse the view that her stardom is manufactured. But the point is -- she has stardom, no matter how, why and where it is stemming from.

After all, it’s not like one powerful mentor can do much, if Lady Luck chooses to stay away (take the case of Vaani Kapoor, who is languishing in Nowhere Land, despite having a powerful mentor, and a big launch).

I have always said this and I am saying this again Kjo needs her more than she needs him. He used her to grab good films under dharma. He has always done that. Besides KJo and Apoorva, Alia is third face of dharma. And because Alia can act and enjoys good stardom people investing in film have no problems casting her in their ventures.

Dharma hardly invest any money in films, Alia is their investment. And that's a fact.

Both. She is a bankable actress, her movies work at the box office, has a good fan base too and apparently Kjo offers to invest in the movie that signs up Alia. So if any director is looking for Dharma association even better for them if they approach Alia. But I don't think top directors need Dharma association so maybe Kjo factor is not important in this case. Just Alia's popularity is what matters then.

She has more stardom than girls of her age group (whether she manufactured or built it herself. Her films carry more hype than Sarah, Jhanvi or Vani).

Bollywood prefers young girls.

I think she charges less than established stars like Deepika (Deepika gets into competition with male stars, unless they are Khans). Bollywood wants to save money on female face. Alia who is not demanding will be preferred.

Karan allegedly offers other directors/producers to sign Alia into their films and in return, he sponsors Dharma money & PR which is actually true to an extent.👍🏼
But the popular narrative is that Karan "forces" directors/producers to take Alia as a replacement for other actors.

Now I just can't wrap my head around that. I mean how can he "force" other directors lol?

Is there really a underworld-type of mafia gang that he is running in Bollywood? I don't think so.


I'd say top directors are to be equally blamed, if they get "influenced" by Karan and actually replace actors.

Alia's stardom is indeed fabricated, and she is quite okay-ish as an actress. But she does have some talent and something about her resonates with the audience.

So, Karan being the business-minded person he's always been, kept on investing in her for all these years. OR he could've genuinely been doing this for her as a mentor (or father-like figure who knows).

But I think things are gonna change now.

Which top director ?

All the directors want to a big dharma Production like K3G. Alia is has box office pull and has fans. People know her face from movies not from random OTT and TV series. When they want PR and money they approach KJO. When they sign Alia, KJO approaches them. Movie becomes hit and both teams are happy.

If we are being technical how come Alias film with Abhishek Chaubey (udta Punjab)was moderate success as oppose to Sonchiriya which failed ??? Which had so many so called better actors 😆
