'Maine film likhi hai': Amit Rai questions Paresh Rawal's OMG 2 claims, cites Screenwriters Association record

The controversy surrounding the writing credits of OMG 2 has taken a fresh turn after writer director Amit Rai responded to veteran actor Paresh Rawal's recent claim that the film's story was originally his idea and that he received no credit.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Rai questioned the basis of Rawal's statement and said the actor must first explain the facts behind his claim. He said, "Wo kis tathya ke adhaar pe ye keh rahe hai? First, he needs to answer this. He is merely making a claim. Kehne ko to wo kuch bhi keh sakte hai. Wo bade actor hai, I cannot go up to an actor of his stature and ask why is he saying this."

Calling OMG 2 his "child", Rai maintained that he remembers creating the film from the beginning. He said he wrote the story and developed it over time, adding that official records of the Screenwriters Association carry his name. "Proof of that is the certificate from the Screenwriters Association and the stamp that is put by the person who sees the script; it has my name," he said.

The filmmaker further stated that only Rawal, the production house, or actor Akshay Kumar could explain the origin of the actor's allegations. Concluding his response, Rai remarked, "Maine film likhi hai aur bana di hai. Bohot jaldi jaag gaye hai woh."

Earlier, producer Ashwin Varde had also rejected Rawal's claims through a detailed statement. However, Akshay Kumar, who played the lead role in OMG 2, has not publicly reacted to the controversy.

The latest dispute began after Paresh Rawal, in an interview with Vicky Lalwani, claimed he had approached Amit Rai with a story idea centred on a boy whose private video goes viral. According to Rawal, he collaborated on the concept and suggested several ideas before creative changes were made, including linking the project to the OMG franchise.

Rawal said he eventually distanced himself because the film no longer reflected the story he had envisioned. He also alleged that despite his contribution, he was neither credited for the story nor acknowledged for the concept in the final film.
