No one really knows . PR would obviously claim it’s a hit . Maximum original movies on Netflix are bad for the same reason that anyone can sell their trash for good amount of money

but watching only 70percent of 1 episode to be counted as watched an entire season doesnt seem right. Everyone who starts a show will watch the 1st episode or part of it to decide if they want to continue.

This kind of vague measurements will leave scope for the service to manipulate/fake promote the content.

That's true producers can easily fabricate & fake the success nd numbers like during 1st Lockdown Street Dancer 3D (which failed in its theatrical release) strated streaming on Amazon Prime, Komal Nahta se lekar every other changu mangu trade "expert" declared it a huge success on SM congratulated the cast n crew etc.... etc, but it wasn't even the top billed Hindi Movie on the channel after 1 week of obligated promotion.

As it is its hard to digest that dance documentary kinda film with more than dozen songs can even work on OTT let alone be touted as huge success😆coz atleast I believe the 1st we do while watching films on laptop or phones is to forward songs & a film which only has songs & dance to offer ghanta chalegi on OTT considering full songs of said film are available on YouTube.

So yeah OTT success criteria is whale fishy 😆& can easily be forged by PR & influencers as a part of face saving tactics.

I mean as far as my digital marketing knowledge goes ppl who already subscribed to premium versions of these platforms wil go ahead and watch the new releases but account banake subscription leke with hefty charges shayad hi koi karega apart from upper strata & diehard fans (other than Akki no one commands that kind of starpower in that list) especially with the advent and booming of Telegram app streaming

For instance Netflix has 4.7 million subscribers in India Disney-Hotstar has around 8 million Indian subscribers where as Telegram app user stats rose upto 4 Crore😆

So if a Gulabo Sitaboo is released on 12th June on Amazon Prime and is easily accessible on well 12th June itself on Telegram for free in 1080 HD which one would aam cinegoer prefer😆

Piracy affecting theatre releases & theatre going experience compared to Piracy destroying OTT or its advent, the difference in damage done is vast.

With less distractions and no overhyping of people before movie releases, audience will shift to a more content based viewing and .... wishful thinking, but judgments perhaps won't be so skewed by overexposed actors/actresses.
