An invitation to a funeral is a very British/American kind of thing, some people have the funeral itself alone with the closest members of family then, after they have a large get together and something they ridiculously call a celebration of Life, most of the time there is food and refreshments offered during the wake, it a is a costume derived from the old West days, that people traveled long distances to get to a funeral and arrived hungry and tired, that is why in America the internment is not immediate, but after two or three days, more if the body is refrigerated. But like I said it is all costumes and whatever the family practices, I come from a mixed group who has the wake one entire night and the following morning they bury the dead, there is no eating cause usually everyone is too sad, and NOBODY needs an invitation to come to the funeral, so everyone shows up, on the contrary because that is one thing people will notice, if you don't show up wearing your best attire that is an insult. To the deceased as well as the family. Like I said just cultural but ridiculous to expect the suffering family to be making guest lists! as if they already don't have enough!
