You don't have to feel bad. You have the right to voice your opinions.

The reason some of us reacted so strongly against your statement is this deep rooted stigma against depression and ignorance about mental health in genereal. Almost every time someone tries to talk about their struggles with mental health they are labelled as attention seekers and liars. This is so rampant that most of us feel like we are being dramatic and making a mountain out of a molehill every single time we try to speak about it. People often say "why didn't he/she try to talk to someone" but when we try to talk hardly anyone is willing to listen/believe us. When celebrities have to face this disbelief its ripple effects are felt by commoners too. So obviously it's a very sensitive topic for those of us who have struggled with depression/ worked in the field of mental health.

See, there's 2 possible scenarios here - A) Deepika is lying. B) She is telling the truth. Now, if we try to do a risk-benefit analysis here dont you think believing in scenario B will cause the least harm? Agar 1 second ke liye maan lein ki aap sahi hai aur vo jhooth hi bol rahi hai to bure se bura kya hoga? Uspe vishvaas karne vaale bevakoof ban jayenge. Bas. Lekin agar vo sach bol rahi hai to uspe bharosa na karne ke consequences bohot bade saabit ho sakte hain.

I have no way to prove that she is telling the truth only her doctor or Deepika herself can provide that. Though my point is that people shouldn't have to carry around their prescription with them. They shouldn't have to provide proofs to the world. If someone tells me that they are allergic to peanuts I'll believe them. I won't try to risk their life by sneaking peanuts into their meals, any reasonable person will do the same. As someone who has faced a lot of scrutiny for my health (both mental and physical) throughout my life I choose to believe people when they open up.

Sorry for the rant...I'm just trying to make you see this situation from my perspective. 😊

The post is also very insensitive because breakups/losing someone you were romantically with can cause a lot of pain to people (even though Deepika's depression isn't from breakup, but still). The pain from a broken heart is considered as a form of mental torture. That's why in some cases when people are married for a long time, if one of them dies the other dies sometime soon after it too. It's called as "widowhood effect".

yea, like they say, we cannot gauge a patient's mental state......even if they have healed...what if talking about Sushant, posting about him (since she will forever see his face in that post) makes her feel traumatic........ yea, if a person heals, they can be relieved tht they healed, but has she ? even in a post marriage interview, she said that its a constant struggle and some days are better then others......she had praised Ranveer to stand by her like a rock in all the struggle that she goes through even now......i know people heal from depression, but in her case, her industry is so so nasty...... and not to forget the trolling and bashing she gets for things that she hasnt even done......... then its quite possible that its far more difficult for her to recover...

Muzzamil's posts is completely brutal.........it equals to the trolling done by trolls.....nothing less.....yea, trolling and trivializing heart break as well.......

I didnt know about the 'widowhood effect'.....yes, pain from heart break is also very hurting

Wait, what.. depression isn’t an illness?

Like, seriously. Nepotism and bullying may be a reality in Bollywood but that will happen anywhere there’s is money, fame and in any small communities. It’s wrong on many levels.

But, people are going on a different tangent like completely. Depression is INTERNAL not EXTERNAL. It’s a serious mental illness and needs to be treated as such. Look at Sushants wish list? How many goals did he have about doing movies? He had worked hard for years to get where he was. Though, I’m glad people are talking about the mafia I’m Bollywood and somethings do need to change, but depression isn’t a ‘phase’ that will pass if everyone is ‘nice’ to you. You can have everything in the world but still be depressed and have a melancholic disposition.

Undermining his fight against depression is an insult to his memory. People aren’t stupid to give their life for petty and shallow issues as such. Feeling lonely isn’t a fad. He may have had people in his life, but still couldn’t go on. It’s not the material things in life it’s the emptiness that kills. Depression is like a void, a gaping hole in your chest. Try filling it with fame, money, relationships, love.. it never fills. That’s why people go for treatments and have to seek medication.

Depression can have a trigger, I totally get what Deepika is saying because yes it is an illness but she almost makes it sound like there is no real reason that depression occurs, its entirely spontaneous.

The fact is depression is the inability of some people to stop the negative thoughts that eventually overwhelm and disrupt every aspect of their life. These people really do not have the coping mechanisms and need to be walked through them. In some people there is no reason whatsoever but certainly in others it can be triggered due to emotional and mental stress like career, love, death of a loved one.

Just because she woke up one day being successful and having no real reason for her depression (completely valid) does not mean everyone's experience is the same.
