But is this a reason good enough??

You are a servant to someone, the person starts a liking to you, makes you his friend gives you royality (, which was taken away from your family) treats you as equal despite still being your Overlord and you only remember the time you spent as his servant

If Dury became his friend after seeing his capabilities as warrior then he wasn't as dedicated to him, it is possible they developed the bond and Dury had unconditional love for him but people don't forget their childhood/teenage years

Both had shortcomings and both maintained this friendship, Karna died fighting for him after all
