Chap -13 Long way ahead

Shravan rushed out of the large iron gates before the exact 30mins deadline was over and he thought this was the time when he and Suman would be alone, and it would give him enough time to explain her everything, but he was disappointed. It was not this car that they were going but Saheb’s car and Suman and Saheb had already occupied the front seats. Shravan was not really shocked by the reaction because given what had happened sometime ago, he had expected Suman to be mad at him. Saheb smiled at him and mentioned that Suman wanted additional hands and he had some bandwidth, so he decided to join them and Shravan mouthed looking at Suman “liar” which thankfully none of them noticed. They had reached their destination and had a connect with Saira before they moved to their exact location. They stopped some distance away from the motel and worked out a plan as to how to go ahead. Shravan suggested that he goes ahead as a customer and tries to sneak in and see if this girl Manju has something that could be helpful else alerting them by direct search might have some adverse effects. If theyhave some consignment hidden as Saira mentioned and if it is not with Manju then they will move it from the current location even if they come to know of any kind of raid or questioning. Before they went ahead Shravan had to do little getup done to play the role, so they made a turnaround to a nearby market area where Mushtaq was there to help . They bought some stuff and Mushtaq mentioned that he had got his friend Ravi to help Shravan. These motels would be watchful of new customers but if he goes with Ravi who is regular customer it will be easier. All set the trio made their back towards the motel but Saheb, the foodie wanted to grab something, and Shravan too was hungry, so they all decided to grab a bite. They walked to the sit-out area of a small, clean Sai Darshini to grab something quickly. Suman walked a little behind Saheb who was triggeredby the smell of the food to walk faster. Shravan got an opportunity and fellback with Suman and said, “Suman what you are thinking and assuming is not true,please give me one chance to explain”. Suman just turned around on her heels and walked back to the car shouting out to Saheb that she was not hungry. Shravan ran a frustrated hand through his hair that it was not going to be easy but he was determined to not let go and make her hear his story someday. He would not give up till then.

Shravan & Saheb had a quick bite and walked back to the car with Saheb complaining that Shravan hardly had anything. Shravan had made Saheb carry a packet of sandwiches and a box of jalebis for Suman and Saheb had dutifully handed it over to Suman not before eyeing the jalebis. Suman was hungry and she had the sandwiches which were quite bland and dry but enough to get her energy for the day ahead.When she opened the other box she had found the jalebis in them and she was sure Shravan had brought them for her. It was as if a volcano had erupted within her as she grabbed the box with force and she threw the box out and hastily drove the car over the box squishing the jalebis beyond recognition.When she had happily rejoiced the scene and looked at the rear-view mirror is that she had seen the hurt in Shravan’s eyes, Suman had questioned her action. It should have made her feel good to see Shravan hurt, but instead it her made her feel sad. She had for a moment questioned her conclusions but soon her brain had won by saying “don’t jump so quickly to conclusions remember he is a two-timer”.There was one more person who was sad and it was Saheb who had ruefully looked at the squished jalebis and said “ Suman if you did not want to have you could have said , I and Shravan could have shared”.

They waited a little far from the motel till it was evening and the loud music started blaring the green, red lights which decorated the entrance had come on welcoming the customers. They waited some more time for the business to pick so they had all the rooms occupied and most girls in service for Shravan to make his entry. Shravan had promised to contact if he saw a problem and Suman & Saheb would call for police backup immediately as they would line them up while he was gone. It was quite some time since Shravan had gone and Saheb & Suman were getting worried when Shravan had made an appearance. He had not found any information,but he had sent out Manju on some pretext and done some searched in the room.He had found nothing in terms of consignment, but one strange thing was she had a big box which had lehengas of different colors which he felt was quite weird.He had managed to get a dupatta away from there which he had got to the team.Saheb started teasing him about the long time he had taken and asked if Manju was so good that she made Shravan forget his mission. Shravan had noticed that although Suman was trying to show she was uninterested in the conversation by keeping herself busy with her mobile but she was attuned to Shravan’s reply and he said looking straight at Suman “Main har jagah muh nahin marta. For me there is only one whom I can spend my whole life just watching without touching an inch”. Suman had finally looked into his eyes which bristled between love and hate,confusion and conclusions. Saheb had not noticed where Shravan was looking a tand said “Yes, you anyways have the hot and sexy Devika why do you need someone else”. That had undone Suman and with a blink of an eye her expressions had changed and her face had hardened and Shravan cursed the timing of the comment.Although Saheb had said it in zest but it was just at the time when he was almost about to break Suman from her shell . Suman had snatched the dupatta from Shravan and the glass work which had not been properly done on the cloth had scratched Shravan’s arm and he flinched. Suman had not even turned but walked away and Shravan eyes had teared up thinking of how a few days back he was so happy with the love and care she showered and now it probably didn’t matter to her that he was hurt. Suman smelt the dupatta and confirmed that it indeed smelt heroine and she had carefully inspected the dupatta and pulled a strand stuck towards the bottom. Although it looked like a dupatta, but the embroidery pieces were stitched as a whole and not carved in and below it was the consignment. The police had been called and Manju and the motel operator was arrested and taken to NCB office. The entire box of lehengas were lined with contraband and given the number of lehengas it was quite a huge stock and probably this was one of their hideouts. Quite a big breakthrough for the case it was.

Sash had asked Suvan to carry out the interrogation of Manju while he and Saheb will continue with the motel operator. Shravan was noting the specifics of the questionnaire in the arrest form while Suman continued her interrogation. Shravan noticed that Suman was being unnecessarily being violent inspite of the fact that Manju was cooperative and was thrashing her repeatedly. Shravan tried to warn Suman that this could lead to consequences but as soon as he had let the words out of his mouth there was a stronger slap that landed on Manju’s face and the already scared frail girl almost had her head hit on the wall as she lost her balance and fell on the hard cold floor.Shravan had enough and he finally lost his cool and said “If you do not understandand make this personal so be it but remember I will not stand and watch this. Ifyou want to complain go ahead and do it to Sash. I am going”. Saying this he walked out banging the door shut of the room. The confession from Manju had come , she had provided more details which would help the investigation. It was confirmed that the truck driver or Target B oversaw transportation of the contraband. These stuffs probably came from Rajasthan based on the information Manju provided, and were probably smuggled across the borders. Sash decided that that a team would probably need to move to Rajasthan shortly work with the local NCB there to gather information. It was a tiring day and Suman finally felt at peace as she stepped under the shower and the warm water rippled over her skin washing away the grim, dust and her tears as they continued as her thoughts drifted back to Shravan and their time together and then finally ended with Devika hugging Shravan. She let her tears flow alongwith the jets of water till she shivered knowing that the warm water had run out as the warmth of Shravan’s arms around her. She slumped against the wall of the shower stall as a little wail left her mouth and then she let it go as she pulled her knees close together and cried her heart out.

An hour later when she had just nibbled through her dinner and laid down bed the thoughts of Shravan hadn’t left her. She had seen in them tenderness, guilt,hurt and her heart had lurched. She had hurt him when she had pulled the dupatta and she felt sorry for that but she was angry and nothing, but fury had taken over her. Shravan was right when he had warned her during the interrogations,and she knew she was being unprofessional with her personal feelings taking over and it was not right on her part. She then realized that Shravan had literally walked out and she had not seen him throughout the remaining part of the evening. Suman walked out to the balcony to take a look at Shravan’s house to see if everything was fine although there was a continued conflict between her heart and mind on the action but she finally made herself understand that he was a colleague of hers and it was absolutely fine to look out for him and it was nothing personal. Suman’s heart smiled at that and said “Liar”. It was dark moonless night and it was difficult for Suman to see through the darkness,but she was able to make the silhouette of a figure as she saw the embers of small sparks in the darkness and understood Shravan was awake and smoking. She continued looking at him and suddenly, she felt he was looking straight at her and Suman scurried back inside embarrassed at being caught. Shravan had seen her and wanted to have a fill of her looking so pure, serene a vision in her white night suit. He knew she was badly hurt and he wanted to just hold her hands,hug her tight and tell her that nobody can take her place in his heart.

Nice update, Sam! Wow....this chapter was an emotional rollercoaster. I really liked the Jalebi scene...tbh it felt like Suman threw out Shravan's heart and crushed it rather than the jalebis. Can't wait to read more...I'm becoming more curious as to what is Shravan's side of the story.
