Karan Johar's Brahmastra directed by Ayan Mukerji was announced six years ago on July 22, 2014. The Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan starrer was supposed to release on December 23, 2016.

Back in 2013, Ranbir Kapoor had delivered a massive success in Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. A year later on July 22, 2014, Ayan Mukerji had announced his magnum opus, Brahmastra. The big budget fantasy is produced by Karan Johar was initially announced for a December 23, 2016 release. The movie was keenly awaited for marking the first big screen collaboration of Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor. Moreover, Amitabh Bachchan was also announced to star in it.

Next month, it will be six years since trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted the official announcement. Interestingly, the movie is still in production as of 2020 and the release date has been pushed quite a few times. The first announcement of the film had read, "This is BIG news! Ayan Mukerji to direct Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. Produced by Karan Johar. Releasing Christmas 2016 - 23 Dec 2016."

The latest update on the film was that it is now slated for December 4, 2020 release and is now releasing as a part one of a planned trilogy. The logo of the film was released last year when Ranbir, Alia and Ayan had visited Kumbh Mela on Mahashivratri but has now been deleted from YouTube.

Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, Aia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan, Brahsmastra also stars Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy, among others. In fact, it also features Shah Rukh Khan in a guest appearance. Shah Rukh's role in the film is said to be quite crucial to the plot.

Even though the movie was slated for a December 4 release, due to coronavirus pandemic that led to nationwide lockdown, it won't come as a surprise that the movie is postponed further.

The announcement date does not matter .Its the production date that counts .Brahmastra started filming in 2018 so only two years have elapsed .Even in Hollywood many projects remain discussed for several years termed “Development Hell “ before they actually begin filming!

Delays are sometimes inevitable, especially with projects as mammoth and ambitious as this one. So long as the end product is good, all this should not matter.
