JA is a really good movie. But it is not a historical film, it is fiction embedded in history.
There are quite a few good historical movies based on true events and people like Gandhi, Bose, Mangal Pandey, Amrapali, Ashoka to name some.
Even Ashoka had some fiction embedded in it due to the love story.
I would like to add that in this film Aish has the most natural type of minimal makeup on and she looked like a doll. It really added to the realism. (Even though not everything was historically accurate). You cannot believe that back in the era all the current makeup tricks like contouring, baking, highlighting had already been invented. They just went mainstream now and before were used only on actresses. I think that is were SLB kind of lacks in Bajaro Mastani and Padamavat. Its very grand to the point it isn't very realistic.

Yes exactly! She wore the bare minimum make up, only what existed around that time: khol. I was as smitten by her beauty as Akbar. They both had this King and Queen aura, their body language, dialogue delivery, HR’s urdu, everything was perfect.
The grand sets looked mughol and not overly done, unlike SLB whose grandeur is just an eye sore and deviate from the realism. His movies look more contemporary and modern...
Sanjay leela bansali movies are repetitive
Its always a triangle love story
Always hero heroine die in end
Its always tragic
Tell me one happy ending movie SLB did
devdas, ram leela, baji rao, padmavaat , guzaarish
only hum dil de chuke sanam and black had somewhat happy ending
SLB movies have more sets and granduer not much story or good dialogues
its visual over quality of story or dialogues
songs are only saving grace in his movies
