It's proved that he valued him more than his ego or thirst for Kingdom in the end when he says I'd have let go of everything to Pandavas if I had known that Karn was their elder brother.. In fact there's a film on Karn in my mother tongue. There it's said that Duryodhan never suspectee Karn's loyalty towards him, even when he catches Karn and Bhanumathi in the most suspicious scenario, Duryodhan scores as a friend here and makes us feel bad for him and his genuine friendship.
