Linguistic community stereotyping in Bollywood

What are your thoughts on linguistic community stereotyping in Bollywood??

Punjabis are 'happy' heavy drunkards in Himesh's description of what you call a 'feel good ' films / web shows and are drug addicts in edgy, dark films / web shows . Both stereotyping. Gujju and Bengali characters mostly are shown speaking in heavy accents which is used as comic relief in a film . And the list goes on.

I mean be it a slice of life film or a dark, edgy one ... stereotyping is present in both anyways.

More than anything, I dislike the grouping of all South Indian people as one. When people talk of North Indians we still specify regions, languages and specific culture to a place but the rest of India just group south Indians together as one no matter where they are from. Many of my friends from there who went on to study to different places in India have contantly felt like they were not given/allowed a specific a sense of identity within India or in mainstream representation platforms including mainstream Bollywood.

And ofcourse Telegu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam are the same thing and the industries are all same.

Punjabis and South Indians have it the worst. Punjabis are loud, piss-headed buffoons; and South Indians are all "Aaaaaaaaiyioo" sambar and curd eating Madrasis (No matter whether they are Kannadiga, Mallu, Telugu).

Gujaratis always pronounce "hall" as "hole" and snacks as "snakes", Biharis always say "Babua" and chew on gutkha, Bengalis swear by fish and mishti doi and Bengali women still dress up in pre-independence style saree drapes (This f$$%ing pisses me off).

Dont know about Drugs but during lockdown maximum domestic violence complaints are from Punjab also facts says 42% husband in India think "its ok to HIT wife" and most of them are from Punjab and Haryana

So yeh Punjabis might be very aggressive

South Indian=Tamilian

Bengalis=Always eating fish n wearing white red saree in old draping style

Biharis=Paan gutka guns

Gujratis=thick thick accent n only eats dhokla thepla

Punjabis=dancing always n always loud n always drinking

Poor north east unko to thik se dikhatey hi nahi he

Even if they show Christian Goans, the characters have an accent like "Kya karta hai, man". Hell, even characters playing priests have an accent 😆

The Christian girls are shown as free minded, having bfs, and all drink in the family like Julie.

Then Parsis always have to have the gujju accent.

They used to show similar traits in all these characters but later on they changed to an extent but still in TV shows we see characters behaving the same way as earlier.

Bongs in Ekta Kapoor serials are a whole different breed. She thinks every Bong is a Sanjay Leela Bhansali heroine 😆
