Great chapter Sambag!!

So Shravan is starting to get jealoussmiley40

>>as of now he is just jealous of the importance that Aneesh is getting because he is used to getting that

Why is Aneesh this chipku?smiley36

>>That's his character and Suman knows that which she will say soon

I love Suman here! She is sharp and fearless!

So Shravan is not going to leave the mission and is regretting his words!

Loved the way you describe things, nature, etc.

Chap 4-->Seeing her in Action

Subbu finally announced the teams after some deliberations and to Shravan’s dismay he and Suman were in the same team and they were supposed to gather data for ground surveillance. He had high hopes that he would not be working with Suman, but now he felt very disheartened. He walked away from the entire team to the place where he thought he would get some peace and could think straight, the open terrace. There was a storm brewing in the Bay of Bengal as the weather forecast mentioned a while ago and Shravan could see the outcome as the waves seem to have increased in frequency and were hitting the shores vigorously with enhanced force. The wind had also picked up speed causing the temporary shade for the pantry to rattle violently and the pantry guy started working on the nuts and bolts to tighten things up a bit to last in case the storm became worse. Shravan could see some clouds gathering at the far end ofthe horizon as the setting sun surrounded them with a red hue. As Shravan stood gazing lost in the ferocious seas his thoughts broke when he felt a hand on his shoulder and turned around to find Aneesh. Aneesh smiled at him and asked“What’s up with you Shravan, you have changed a lot, you seem to be brooding one since we have been here. You are no more the carefree, cool guy that you used to be.”

Shravan smiled and asked him whether he would like to have a cup of coffee. Both pickedup their coffee and tried to have a conversation, but the wind and the roar of the waves did not allow them to have a decent conversation. They moved to the edge of the staircase just inside the building and started sipping their coffee and conversing. There were loads they wanted to talk because they were meeting each other almost after 3-4 years. Shravan finally decided to share his dilemma with Aneesh and he mentioned to him that he was not happy about teaming up with Suman and neither was he interested to work with her team. He was apprehensive that she will steal the show and they will be left with only regrets. Aneesh was surprised at his chain of thoughts and he said “Shravan when did you start thinking this way. You were the charming guy of our group who enthralled girls and loved being their centre of attention. People so wanted to be in Suman’s team, the enigmatic, beautiful smart lady and you are upset because she and you are a team”. Shravan had a lost smile on his face as he seemed reminiscing his days in the Police Academy but soon his face was hard and he said “ You guys are free to propose yourself and be part of her team, I will anyways talk to my boss and be out of this project itself . I do not want to be in the same team as Suman nor do I want to work in this project where I must interact with her daily”.Aneesh was aghast hearing the line of thought that Shravan was thinking along but anyways it was his decision and who knows he might be the lucky one to get to work with the beauty with brains, Suman and if not, anything have a nice time. He patted Shravan on his back and stepped out in the terrace to have a smoke as Shravan turned around to see Suman standing shocked at the landing of the stairs. It was evident that she had heard if not all at least most of the conversation. As Shravan took a step towards her when she turned on her heels and almost ran from there. Shravan rushed down the stairs when he was stopped by Saheb who mentioned that the NCB team was going on a mission and a small team could accompany them so it could be hands-on for them. Shravan was all for such adventure and challenges but write now he had messed up big time. He had to find Suman lest she jeopardizes his plans by opening her mouth in front of Subbu. He ran to the 3rd floor where Suman and the entire team were working out from, but the floor did not have much people apart from the few clerical staff and they obviously did not have any idea where the team had gone. Shravan ran down the stairs instead of using the lift to pump blood to his brains faster so he could think of an innovative way to stop her. There were just two cars lined up in the reserved parking area where IOs parked their cars and he finally caught his object of attention. Suman was there all ready for the raid they were going for and he could see she was checking her bullets and tucking in the gun behind her back. Shravan ran as fast as he could and from a few meters he knew Suman had sensed that as her posture turned stiff as she turned around to face him . Shravan said the first thing that came to his mouth “I am sorry Suman.. I mean Officer Suman for what I said today morning, Iactually did not mean it”. For few seconds he waited for her to reply but her straight face did not give away anything and just when he thought she had not heard Suman said “ Do not say something you do not mean. If you did not mean the words, then then you do not mean the sorry as well now. Careful OfficerMalhotra you are in a job where we say words which mean lot to lot of people.Regarding your working with me I can’t help it. The best I can do is give you the option to go to another team but since you do not want to be around anywhere near me and since I love my job and I am not going to step away from here , you have to obviously do the favours. By the way you need not wait foryour boss, you can just let Subbu know he will do the needful and don’t worry Iwill not let him know anything that I have heard. It’s your story to tell andyou can go ahead”.

Shravan felt like he had been thrown in a tub of ice-cold water in freezing winters. He fumbled and he finally managed to say “You can ask Aneesh to help you, he wouldbe very interested, you can probably let your boss know that you are not happy with his choice”. Shravan stopped as he noticed Suman was smiling her characteristic sarcastic smile when she said “Officer Malhotra, thanks for the help. Let me enlighten you that I wanted you to be part of my team, but I guess I was wrong but no worries I can handle things on my own”. Shravan was now stumped,he had not expected this but he had to know so he asked “Why me”? He thoughtSuman will not answer but she looked at him straight in the eye and said “Why not? An SP who had in just a few years of service had been part of thedecorated Greyhound , one who was part of the crucial operation which thwarted the attempt to assassinate the CM of the state against Maoists “. Shravan now smiled and asked “I see you have done your homework pretty well and fast. But why not Aneesh, you two seems to get along well”.

Suman: Your work history is something Subbu Sir has and he has handpicked from the resumes sent.He has a sharp eye for right people and as of I am concerned, I was given a choice to pick up my team member and I just did my job. As far as Aneesh is concerned, he might get along well with me , I am not sure why you think so but he seems to be more interested in me than the mission. He might need some mentoring which Subbu Sir will probably do but not me”.

Before Shravan could ask anything, more Suman said “Officer Malhotra if you havefurther questions, I am sorry you will have to hold till I am back because weare getting late. You can get into the car at the back with your other colleagues, she pointed to a black sedan parked. Saheb has the directions and he will guide you all. But if you do not want to come, I completely understand.Once I am back tomorrow then probably you will be gone. All the best”. She turned and walked away without another word.

The evening was darker than usual with clouds hovering over as the cars sped away with teams on their mission. The wind was leaving a dusty trail now as it blew against Shravan’s face tagging along dried leaves, plastic bagss as he blinked his eyes to focus on the map in his hand. They were speeding on the highway towards Chennai Port when they heard Shashank on the Bluetooth. The informer has sent the vehicle details which he sent to the team, in which the consignment was loaded No vehicle would follow the consignment after two turns to avoid detection. Minimum distance of at least two cars behind was to be adhered to as per protocol. The team kept following the vehicle in turns when Suman spoke “Sir, the vehicle is being followed discreetly by another Hyundai i10 redcar, I am sending the details. Can you please get this details checked with our airport contact if it was in the airport and where all this car travelled from.I am sending the number, but we need to be careful as I have a hunch this car is shadowing the small pickup truck with the consignment”. Sash as he was fondly called, got on his job and after some time his voice was on the conference call that yes he checked with the airport authority and they confirmed that the car had exited the airport parking but they were still tracing when and who parked it there because the in-time seems to be missing.Sid mentioned that the number plate will most probably be fake, but he was still checking with the RTO.

The NCB cars were following instructions when one of them lost track of the consignment due to some commotion in the road, but it was evident that they were headed towards the docks. The team after consultation decided to head towards the docks. They were sure that the consignment would get loaded in one of the containers to be shipped or it would travel somewhere by road. The police were alerted to look for the vehicle at all toll checks to ensure it does not leave the city limits while the NCB headed to the docks. After some searches the team were able to spot the vehicle which carried the consignment. They were done loading consignment to the container which would be loaded to the ship. The team were just there on the nick of time to catch them before the vehicle disappeared with the consignment. All of them closed in and grabbed the men who were supervising the operation. The smugglers were caught a little off guard as they did not expect somebody was on their heels. They did not have time for even reaching or their guns

The team got busy with handcuffing the consignment handlers when it started drizzling and thundering. In this cacophony what they did not notice was that the driver of the vehicle carrying the consignment was still sitting in his place a littleahead of where they were capturing the fugitives and seeing them a little distracted, he started the vehicle and started driving away. Suman was the nearest to the vehicle and the first to notice and she turned and ran behind the vehicle fast, furious, straight and smooth kicking off bouts of the slightly wet dust in the air. The others turned to see her running behind the consignment and they knew that was the only way to get hold of them, given that their cars were parked a little far and the approach roads were too narrow to get them there. Shash immediately asked few of them to get to the cars and drive to the other side of the docks so that they can block the vehicle and the rest including Shravan ran behind Suman. The rain was now pelting down drenching everyone and Shravan was in awe looking at the way Suman trudged ahead not caring that the rain was soaking her from the top while the muddy streets were bathing her in slush as she sprinter across the slushy kuccha road. Her steps were firm and sure footed as she hardly slipped in the torrential rain. He was the first person behind Suman and he could clearly hear her heels thudding against the small stones and splashing puddle of blackish, muddy water around. Suman was way ahead of them followed by Shasank , Aneesh, Shravan and Saheb when they noticed that Suman was almost nearing the truck when she managed to shoot at one of the truck’s wheels. Although the bullet missed the wheel by a whisker the loud clang on the metal caused the driver to look behind and as it slowed a little with the jerk Suman jumped and caught hold of the two holders at the sides of the truck and managed to climb up using the narrow space behind the container to gain foothold. She kept hanging precariously as she kept slipping in the torrential rain but managed to cling to the back of the truck. Shravan had his heart in his throat as he saw Suman dangling dangerously behind the truck trying her best to climb up. With the rain gushing down she was slipping everytime she pushed herself up but trying her best to cling to the slippery surface. She slipped once almost to the edge and all were scared she would fall but she managed to get back the foothold and then she gave a final push and she was able to lift herself up on the roof and was able to crawl on the roof of the small truck and reach the driver’s window and was already trying to fight with him using her free hand. The activity had caused the truck to slow down and the others were able to reach Suman and the truck driver soon to extricate him out and get hold of the consignment and the vehicle.

Suman got down from the truck and the first thing Shravan noticed was that she had bruises on her hand and her palm was bleeding and he immediately shouted at Rajesh(another colleague ) “Rajesh first aid jaldi!!”. Suman looked up at him alittle surprised, when she noticed Shravan pointing his hand towards his shoulder and when she followed the path she noticed that her shirt had torn during the chase and her bra was visible till the top of the cups and she immediately tried putting her injured arm there to cover herself. She noticed that Shravan was already taking off hisjacket when she felt somebody wrapping her from back. She immediately turned to see Shasank smiling down at her. She smiled back as she covered herself in the jacket and zipped up when he stretched out his hand and said, “Good Job Suman”.She smiled a small thank you and just before she walked away, she turned to notice Shravan wearing back his jacket and if it was not an illusion, she noticed that he was a little hurt. She was not sure what was the reason but from the conversation she heard earlier she thought he might be again angry that she was congratulated or maybe he wanted Suman to share his jacket, you heard he was concerned (her heart quipped). Suman smiled at herself at her silly thoughts as she walked enjoying the rain which was now a drizzle towards the car where the first aid kit was waiting for her.

Read part 3 and 4 in one go

Beautiful writing

Loved the detailing

Shravan wanted to back out as he was in team including Suman

but Suman gave him befitting reply

Shravan is also good as he saved CM and is courageous

Part 4 was amazing

liked the chase and courageous Suman

Her running behind truck and then fight was best

Last part was cute where Shravan was really worried and wanted to protect her by giving her his jacket 👍🏼

Thanks for update

This is reminding me of the show "Powder" which was also based on the NCB and had the female character Brinda whom one of the male officers didn't like. She also had a truck sequence in that....in that show they didn't have a romantic angle but eventually became friends.

Look forward to seeing how your story progresses....

But shravan has been unfair n judgemental regarding sumo....hope he can grow past his cliched and misogynist mindset.

Very nice chapter! I liked the chase part and I hope we get to see an action sequence in the show too! I like Suman's character - she's strong, fearless, and fierce! It's nice to see that Shravan is finally coming around and he is slowly changing his opinion about Suman. Awesome job! Can't wait for the next chapter! Btw, what's your name?

It was more of a question 😊 ..I am not sure how do I ensure that I am not copying from any other story because I am not sure if someone would have written a similar story and if writing a scene from some movie or series is also considered copyright infringement

Chap-5 Bonds undefined

The morning after was beautiful. The storm had passed, and the clear blue skies heralded new beginnings. Suman walked to the end of the wide terrace looking at the rolling waves crashing against the pristine beach. She closed her eyes taking inthe smell of sand mixed with the salty waves. She loved being in Chennai and in this office. She had spent her childhood in this city and had moved to Mumbai for a brief period before coming back to Chennai when she was posted in the Chennai zonal headquarters of the NCB. It was home to her , it was her and Satya’s home. She would never leave this place till she had achieved what shehad set out to do , till she could see Satya smile again. She was still standing with her eyes closed when she heard Sash say “remembering Satya?”.Suman turned back when smoke puffs engulfed her. She waved her hands to driveoff the smoke and said “Sash you need to control your smoking. You are becoming a chain smoker now. I don’t know how Kaveri manages to get along with this chimney”. Sash laughed at her and said “Now that you have to thank me for. Those are strategic skills, you will need to learn when you get married”. He joked as he handed over the cigarette to Suman. Suman puffed a few times before handing it back to Sash as he asked her to finish it off and Suman replied “You know right I don’t smoke , just once in a while when” she let the sentence hang when Sash completed it for her “when you have those disturbing thoughts of Satya . You must learn to let go Suman. You need to move on. This will help to stop emotions rule your judgement and you know it can be harmful for you and your team”. Suman very well understood what Shash was trying to imply and she knew she will have to work on this part of her. Saheb walked in to find Suman in deep thought and Sash puffing away to glory. He quickly joined them again reprimanding Sash for his smoking. Sash got a little irritated and said rather loudly “what’s wrong with all of you today all seem to be hell bent on getting me off smoking”. Saheb got a little surprised and assuming Sash was angry started saying sorry when Sash laughed saying “Cmon folks chill …I was just joking. But by the way is this what your latest search for would be bride land on ..i mean did the girl put the condition that I will marry you only when you have no smoking friends”. Hearing this Saheb, Suman and Sash burst into laughter and Sash pulled both for a group hug.

Shravan watched their bonding from a distance feeling quite lonely suddenly. He felt he did not belong here. Suman had noticed him standing at a distance and as he was about to turn back she called out to him. Shravan had no choice but to walk towards the group as he greeted them all. Sash noted “Shravan you run pretty well till the end of the chase I could not catch up with your speed”. Hearing this Saheb started pulling Sash’s leg and said “Sir, umar ho chala hain apka , do betiyonke baap ho gaye ho ab bhagna chod do” Sash laughed out loud hearing this and said “ That reminds me , Piya and Miya have their birthdays next week so Kaveri and myself are planning a small get together at home with friends. You all are invited.Shravan do join and be part of our work family”. Shravan had started admiring Sash in the last few days. He was a fantastic leader empathetic, led from the front, encouraged his team and knew them inside out. He could never say no for anything to him. Once Sash and Saheb left Suman turned towards Shravan. Shravan looked at her and was again unsure how to start so he smiled a little and asked“How are you feeling today?”. Suman smiled at the question and said “Ecstatic,we managed to nab the consignment and quite a few of the carriers so should make some headway”. Shravan’s gave a small laugh and said “ No I was actually asking about your injuries “. Suman looked at her bandaged palm and said “part of the job, its fine just that I have to use the spoon and I love to eat my rice with my fingers”. Since they started working together this was probably the first time they were having a sane conversation and this thought was on top of both of their minds. Suman finally asked what she had been dying to ask “So, when are you going back?”. Shravan looked down shuffled his feet a little and looked back at Suman who was curiously observing him for the last few seconds. Finally,he said “I am not going back “. Suman gaped at him and said “Are you serious? You are not throwing me out right and neither have I resigned”. Shravan laughed out loud this time and said “It’s neither, it’s just that I have started liking the work, its quite challenging and I keep learning something new “. Suman again laughed at his answer and said “Oh oo..dont worry this is not your appraisal interview that you are giving the learning talk to me. Tell me what really it is “. Shravan laughed again and thought this was a new side of Suman he never thought he would ever see, she was capable of good humour. He said, “I was impressed with Shashank Sir, can’t leave him”. Suman smiled at this and looked towards Sash having a chit chat with one of the desk clerks and said “ That he is , he is gem of a person , I still don’t understand what he is doing in this profession but when it comes to intelligence, network and getting information out of hardened criminals nobody in this office can beat him to it.But, but you still have to work with me that doesn’t change even if Sash is the one you in love with”. Shravan laughed out and Suman looked in awe at his childlike innocent laugh as his facial muscles stretched as he tried to control. After a while he replied continuing the friendly banter “I think youare right, probably its not Sash I am in love with but with the driver that you beat black and blue . I am really worried about him so decided to stay back to fight for my love”. Suman now could not control and held her stomach and rolledback a few steps as she laughed uncontrollably. Shravan looked at her, she looked like an enchantress as the lines of worry were gone and her face lit uplike the bright sun. Shravan had a sleepless night as he kept recounting the encounters he had with Suman , the way he crossed the line, the way she fought,he was starting to respect her for the grit , determination she had. She was the first woman of substance he was meeting in his life. But, looking at Suman now Shravan thought he was probably developing a crush on her as well. He smiled thinking where his thoughts were going but he knew he could not help himself. He finally gathered some courage and said “Before you question if I am confused about which way I belong be rest assured I only fall for beautiful women”.Suman suddenly felt conscious as she felt that Shravan’s looks had become a little intense but in the next moment he laughed and looked away. Suman then asked “You have a ring of honesty around you which makes me try to believe that you are not what you sometimes seem to be. I have a feeling some situation brings out the vulnerable you and it seems you can’t control it. May I ask you, what is it that hurts? What is the reason that has brought the change”. Shravan did not respond for a while and Suman let it pass because she was happy that Shravan decided to continue and Subbu wont question her not being able to retain him when she heard Shravan say “Its’ you , you who has brought the change”. Suman turned around and looked straight at Shravan who lifted his mouth a little and smiled a sensuous smile and Suman blushed and Shravan was floored by the little pink hue that crept up her cheeks and he mentally did a little jig.

Suman felt her cheeks warm up when Shravan had looked at her and held her gaze and said with a lot of conviction that she was the reason he wanted to stay. Suman had never craved for male attention although she knew she unwantedly always got male attention. She had always been focused on her goal and never ever felt the need to hear her heart speak. Sash and the rest of the gang were always there but they either had their families around or they had their girlfriends and boyfriends to hangout or spend time with. She being on her own had in those lonely days felt the need to have company. She had suppressed that always but today hearing Shravan had again stirred that thought. Was she really missing out something in life in her quest to get justice for Satya,as Sash said sometimes. But Shravan, the guy who had unabashedly demeaned her just two days back. She counter argued that she had been observing Shravan since he said that, and she had seen guilt in his eyes every time their eyes met. He seemed to be happy whenever Suman would indirectly respond to him as if he felt he was being pardoned. He was good and sharp at his work, he never slacked there even when he wanted to go back. Suman recollected how Shravan had looked horrified at her bleeding palms and shouted out for first aid and the way he had indicated that her shirt was torn without making it obvious to everyone. Suman felt he still had his heart in the right place but she was unable to put her finger on what triggered the misogynistic side of him, was it a part of him or it was something to do with his surroundings or events in the past. Suman was intrigued about him, wanted to know him better before even thinking anything ahead. Before she even thinks of knowing him she needed him to apologize no ifs and buts and oks there. He was wrong and he should know that he cannot do this.

Shravan was having this mushy feeling, the way you have when you meet your first crush, a little nervous,a little lost, a little jumpy. He was happy that he could make the rough and tough Suman blush. But then his Mom says he wears his heart on his sleeve and donates it to every girl he meets. Mum would never understand but this is not of that kind. this was like meeting Katrina Kaif for the first time, the fan moment. He would make girls jumpy, but this was first time he was jumpy about the next moment, about the next interaction with Suman. He was not sure how Suman would think but there was this nagging feeling which kept coming back to him that he had wronged Suman and the first thing he needed to do was apologize, no ifs and buts there. Shravan slapped himself for behaving like a love sick fool and reprimanded himself for not getting back to work on time. The first thing Sash and Suman would hate was sloppiness at work and he could not make any of them unhappy now that he had decided to stay.
