Why did Rahul Khanna fail as a mainstream hero?

Good looks. Check.

Acting ability. Check.

Screen presence. Check.

Having ticked off most of the essentials, how did he fail to make a mark for himself? He was so good in Wake up Sid, but was typecast as a supporting character throughout his career.

He looks too "sharif". Actually that's one word you can use to define most of his characters.

And this in turn explains his limitations as an actor: he is one-note, non-versatile.

Isn't it shah's character name in KKHH? It's a character.. How is he mainstream hero. Besides kaafi popular character hai

Look at his insta... hes hot but he’s too classy and different . He has avocados for breakfast lunch dinner. Thats like tooooo much classiness hahaha so def not for the mainstream cinemas. Neither I think he’s interested in it as such

Well he did start well, but then acted in movies with boob pressing, kissing that was considered adult or bgrade at that time. hence he was not accepted for regular roles. And also he doesnt have that screen presence as lead actor. Although he acted better in wake up sid, he did not made the role memorable as Ranbir or Konkana. for that matter, I remember the neighbor Kashmira shah and his friends more than him.

He was not a mainstream hero material that's why he failed as mainstream hero.

He is one note actor.
