I've seen both south and Bollywood masala movies as everyone.

Unfortunately now, majority of the time is alloted to south masala movies on TV.

What is the cause?

Do people like them so much?

Honestly, for me, masala movies, a lot of times are cringey af. On top it, they're loaded with misogyny.

In particular, the south movies on TV are literally the worst crop. I'm sure south has better movies but these movies on TV are so bloody misogynistic, they disgust me.

So do think south masala movies are better or Bollywood masala movies?

PS : not implying anything against any film industry. Just an observation hence a discussion upon it.

I hate Masala movies in general (😕) and nor have I ever watched a South Indian movie. So I won’t comment on which storyline is better but I have definitely watched some fight scenes on YouTube and I definitely do prefer the BW masala action sequences (though still outrageous) more than the south.

South masala movies are worse. However, South also makes a ton of good cinema which become commercially successful. So it more than balances out. I don't understand why the same can't happen in BW. A Gully Boy is concerned good cinema, but really, it's a C at the most in terms of artistic quality.

I enjoy masala movies both in Bollywood as well as South (only really seen Telugu). I do think the misogyny, objectification and (in a sexist way only female) colorism is a tad higher in the (Telugu) South industry. But it's not always true. For just one example, look at Arundhati. Not a single Bollywood movie matches it!

I do think it was inspired by 8 mile. But I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It almost showed the reality of slums. Actually not really. In Dharavi if you have a 2 storey house, you rich. Not digressing, the performances, the music, the rap scene underbelly, the poignant scenes (eg Ranveer sitting in car while a party is on) were really artistic and thoroughly enjoyable. Loved the tadka of Alia's role. And the side commentary on how girls have to fight, even today, to not be treated as an object. I can go on and on, but will stop now.

I watch selective Telugu movies. Allu Arjun's movies are a must watch for me(they are kinda masala but they atleast have some variation unlike the same old bolly masala movies). Nithya Menon is ❤️. Anushka Shetty is a powerhouse.

Can't bear Jr NTR or Mahesh Babu for some reason. Charan movies are mostly decent.

The objectification and misogyny needs to go though.

Bolly masala movies esp the Varun Dhawan variety are a complete NO for me. No originality, enough cringe for a lifetime and horrible forced comedy are not my cup of coffee.

If it’s well made then it’s good whether BW or South, if it’s not still doesn’t matter where it’s from...

Can’t speak for rest of the south but Telugu masala movies are WAY worse than Hindi ones. Particularly the ones from the 90s-00s... horrible in so many ways!

South movies. I find them highly misogynistic. Mainly the ones that play on TV.

I am sure they have great content movies too but the underlying sexism is always there.
