Name directors who are overrated/underrated?

Who are directors who have made great films but not earned recognition. Or basically films that are underrated.

side note.. I hate hate every single imtiaz Ali movie.. he uses pseudo symbolism acting like he is the smartest guy.. when in fact.. he ruins the script!!

Farhan akthar is quite underrated I believe. He should seriously direct more movies

Imtiyaz Ali for sure... u kept waiting for him to give us a JWM again... nah not happening...

Neeraj Pandey is highly underrated

Overrated - Anurag Kashyap.

Underrated - Neeraj Pandey , Shoojit Sircar , Nitesh Tiwari.

Overrated : SLB. So tired of the beautiful people,beautiful costumes, beautiful sets....mediocre script,shoddy character building, needless never ending romantic melodrama. He was much more balanced with Khamoshi. After the success of HDDCS and Devdas he had delusions of grandeur and his craft suffered.

Siddharth Anand : From movies and interviews it's clear that he'd rather be working on Hollywood blockbusters. Take away the superstars his plots are wafer thin. Nothing uniquely Indian or even anything grounded in reality. All flash and no depth.

Underrated:

Shimit Amin directed Chak de and Rocket Singh. Reached his peak when YRF was making quality commercial movies.

Atul Sabharwal directed Aurangzeb. Much before Mirzapur,Sopranos or Peaky Blinders there was Aurangzeb which showed what went behind the doors of criminal and cop families in a slick and stylish way.

Habib Faisal of Ishaqzaade. Much like the heroine of his first movie Parineeti, Faisal came and went like a comet.

Overrated - Imtiaz Ali, Ayan Mukherjee, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Zoya Akhtar, Raazi/Chappak's director, Sriram Raghavan (maybe a writer problem more than director problem)

Underrated - Nitesh Tiwari, Farhan Akhtar

KJo - no rating. I have no idea why people watch his movies still.

Overrated toh koi nahi but there are a lot of underrated directors who need to be recognized more....

Unfortunately, the recognition that they get heavily depends upon first the kind of star cast they manage to lock in and second the movies BO success!
