Dev's son was a crybaby and a wimp. That's what acting like a girl means. Dev wanted his kid to football so that he can become a soccer player like him. What's wrong in it? Children don't know what right or wrong for them at such a young age. Their parents do and Dev had full right to force him to play football.
Rhea never treated her son like Dev did because she was hardly involved in her son's life. She was like a relative, a cute loving aunt but not a mother.
Dev's career was over when he broke his leg. Why do people forget that? Now did you expect an ex-soccer player who was once earning lacs to odd jobs when Rhea is already a working and bringing food to the table? Then who is going to look after the kid?
The son was a primary school kid ffs! Many many kids are a bit oversensitive, cry often, etc. at that age... nothing unusual or worth telling off your kid that much at any rate. And it is NOT something only girls do...it's so unhealthy to force little boys not to cry when they are upset and leads to all sorts of issues later on in life.
And forcing your kid into a career they aren't interested in is always wrong... especially one like being a footballer which is extremely difficult to get into, and entails retirement at like 35! It is true that children often don't know what's right for them so parents have a right to force...but that only applies to essential things like food, medicines, going to school, etc. not football ffs!!
As for Rhea not being very involved in the son's life, I say the way she acted was any day better than being like Dev.
Finally, yes I know that his career in football was over with the leg injury.... but he could have always studied or trained in something else! I knew many housewives growing up who did various courses through colleges or open university to get qualified and work. And what you said was exactly what the problem with Dev...his EGO about his past success never allowed him to do something else...but at the same time he wasn't content being a house husband/stay at home dad and kept feeling insecure at Rhea's career successes (because again, EGO). It is not actually necessary for one parent to be at home all the time with no job when a kid reaches school age, especially if they have a grandparent at home who can do drops/pick ups from school and keep an eye on the kid (like Dev's mom!) Really the only reason someone should be a stay at home parent to a 5+ aged kid is if they truly enjoy that role and are happy /content in it... which Dev clearly wasn't.
Dev's discontentment with his actually pretty easy life due to his HUGE EGO is what lead to his resentment of Rhea as well as his ill treatment of their son!
