Chapter 9
..
“Mom, you should eat” - says Aarav after giving his mom some time and then bringing in dinner. He knew about the fast, and what had just happened. He hated to see his mom upset and had a good mind to confront his father.I’m speaking to dad does he even know you’re fasting for him!!!”
Khushi catches Aaravs arm,
“No Aarav, Tum aisa kuch nahin karoge” (“You Won’t”)
- bas vapas chalte hai kal” (let’s just leave tomorrow)
Aarav agrees, “you should eat though”
Khushi nods but aarav knows his mother well enough to know that she wouldn’t eat so easily.
..
The welfare officer had left the house content, on the other hand ha however everything else was not so good. ASR had a underlying feeling of annoyance. Which was slowly fading a way. He loosened his tie and took of his blazer, to hear his phone. He ought to call his wife he thought he owed her a apology for loosing his temper.
Coming across a message from Aman with two words
“Khushis fasting” Arnav quickly realises what he’d done and curses himself.
..
Passing his daughter by who just gives him the cold shoulder and roll of the eyes as he picks up his car keys in a hurry and leaves the house.
...
“She doesn’t want to see you” Arnav heard Aarav explain standing in the way of his father at the door that would lead into one of the entrances at Amans home.
Arnav needed a few moments that was all but he understood.
“we’re leaving tomorrow.”
Arnav nodded, if anyone was to blame for this it was him “Okay, look after yourself won’t you” he said patting Aarav on the shoulder but his heart and mind seemed to be with Khushi.
Arnav turned away as did Aarav back inside.
He couldn’t help but turn back a moment wondering if he could catch Khushi through the window but no such luck.
Walking back to his car with a growing despise for himself. Once in privacy of his car slamming the steering wheel with frustration.
Arnav looks out of the car window up into Amans hourse where the lights were still on to see Khushi sat by the window side.
He dialled her number but there was no answer, she’d cut the call.
He left a message.. for a moment thinking about what he could say. Only one phrase came to mind.
“I’m sorry love, I’m sorry .. I just .. I did it again I know.. just please eat.”
I’ll call you tomorrow.
...
A week passed this way
Arnav called Khushi everyday but she didn’t answer.
She had no desire to be hurt by him now she was too tired, found it easier to be alone. He had tried to send messages of apology through his children but she didn’t want to hear any of it.
She kept herself to herself whilst Aarav saw his mother become distant to his father and distract herself with her own bussniess ventures and mentoring him.
Aarav had baked a distraction! A cake that was well flat as he took it out of the oven!
Mom! He shouted and Khushi walked into the kitchen.
She looked at her son who held a very bad attempt at a chocolate cake and laughed.
It was nice to see his mother smile.
“Help - it’s for Mrs Roy next door I promised her tea and cake.”
Khushi came over put her hand on his cheek, you’re very sweet! Now let’s start again.
Watching his mum mix new batter into a bowl he wondered if he ought to mention his father but then decided not to.
“You’ve got a miss call from dad ” he said purposely to see if if would get her attention, it did just for a split second and then she turned away.
That meant she still cared but she was still too hurt and adamant to show her indifference.
It sounded as if the postman had dropped letters though the post.
I”ll be a second said Aarav, wondering what he could do to start up the dad conversation with his mom but is lost for ideas.
He picks up the letters on the floor by the entrance. finding one is for him he opens it up to see its from his doctor.
Mr Aarav Singh Raizada - Diabetes’s test positive read the headline of the letter.
Well he had half expected this and half not. He took the letter into the kitchen and sat down with it quietly on the kitchen table.
Judging by the silence Khushi had to ask what the letter was about.
Kya hua, (What is it)
“It’s from the doctor, I have diabetes”
Aarav sighed Khushi as she left the counter and walked towards the dinning table.
She wrapped her hand around his and took seat at the table. Taking the letter from him to have a read herself.
“I’m alright with it ..” said Aarav.
“But I look like dad, now I even have the same illness as him, I’m practically turning into him.. at this rate you’ll begin to hate me too !” He said conscious that he was much like his father in a lot of ways
“I won’t! And i don’t hate your fatherdon’t say that ever again ..I just ..I’m just angry that’s all.” Khushi was quick to scold Aarav. It wasnt what it seemed and whatever it was it was between her and Arnav.
“Can I have a sugar free version of the cake” says Aarav hugging his mother.
...
On the other hand back in Dehli in Raizada house. Arnav hears Aditi yelling at HP from where he was working at the poolside.
He had no idea what was wrong with his daughter she’d been in a bad mood all day, she was shouting louder at the staff than he ever did.
She didn’t talk to him at breakfast something was wrong.
He’d never seen this side of his Daughter before. His first instinct was to call Khushi but the cold shoulder she gave him still persisted. She wouldn’t pick up so he dialled Aaravs number.
Aarav who was still sat with his mother takes the call,
Puts it on speaker even though he knows his mom rather not be involved in this conversation.
Aarav, I wondered if you can help
Yep dad what’s up
It’s Aditi she’s been in a fowl mood all morning, she’s not said a word all morning and she’s just .. well I don’t know.
Khushi who had now left the kitchen table couldn’t deny that his voice still gave her goosebumps. She continued her work on the cake with her back turned making it clear she didn’t want to be involved in the conversation.
When the two men couldn’t work out what was wrong with Aditi, Khushi turned to Aarav to trace the words “Time of Month”
Aarav sighed.. “oh dad you need to buy her icecream, those crisps she likes and just leave her alone if she’s too much”
Aarav didn’t mention his test results that was better done another time he felt.
Arnav had taken Aaravs advice and took
Aditi out for her favourite icecream.
“Thanks pa” she said whilst he sipped on coffee.
“You’re welcome, but I did hear you shout at Hp today, you shouldn’t do that. I know I do but I’m by no means perfect.
“You ought to pick up the good the good things about the people your around and not the bad”
Aditi agreed..
It was round about then that Arnav got a message from Aman telling him that nanis funds had now been realised and their debts had been paid off.
Over 6 weeks in and Khushi remained as distance and hadn’t spoken to him the once however Aman had bought good news into the Arnavs office.
“ Good news - we’re back on track, financially, Arnav flicked through accounts to see everything in the green.
“you could probably move back in together if you don’t make a big hoo ha about it” suggested Aman and Arnav lifted his eyes from the file in thought.
Although the news was what Arnav had been waiting to hear for months on end he wondered if he’d gained everything back at the cost of loosing Khushi”
Even having beat the odds he felt lost..
Thanking Aman, Arnav takes a moment to think of the last time he’d seen Khushi. The time he’d thrown her out of her home. That image was a unpleasant one.
He turned to the phone on his desk called both his children at once.
Sitting back in his chair for a second he waited for them to answer.
“Aarav Aditi”
Yep - answered Aarav
Yes pa - answered Aditi
“I have some good news.. “ began Arnav putting a smile on the faces of his children who were ever so happy to hear they could unite again.
...
Next chapter:
Khushi remained stood at the entrance of Raizada house even as the children rushed in to see each other.
Khushi couldn’t bring herself to put foot in the house. “Come on inside mom!” Said Aditi but
Khushi refused, “Not without your Fathers permission”
The kids could feel their mom being stubborn, but they also respected her feelings
Awesome part
Waiting for the reunion
Anger is soo very justified
All this has come at a heavy cost. The cost that was borne by the whole family. How long will it take for the them to come together again and become whole?
Glad she stayed stubborn awesome
Glad she stayed stubborn awesome
Thanks took me a while to write this today but pleased with how it’s turned out! Yes Khushi hasn’t moved from her place of feeling at all much really.

Agree and in the end I think Arnav realises that too, Let’s see how things go with Khushis distance of being in the disheartened corner and Arnav in realisation of what his actions have done to their relationship.
The pressures on now I feel like the next chapter has to be really good 😲
