Yes they are looking for a good playback singer and not a performer. And well said about Lata.... She has succeeded as a playback singer and also performer. If she comes to perform it'll be a full house....

In my opinion, all of the qualities are important.

Sur and taal are most important, but as long the person in question is not biologically 'tone deaf', things like sur can be honed through training. Basic sur and taal remain crucial requirements for singing.

Personality is something that you have either got or have not. It cannot be easily improved, especially once you move into adulthood. However it can be feigned! (As we have seen!!)

Performance, in my opinion is also something that is not easily taught. Some people have it naturally and others will always perform like robots. It is known to help set the mood of the song.

Putting feeling into the song is also a very very important pre-requisite for playback singing. The singer must be able to convey the actors emotions through his voice. There are one or two singers in the finals (i shall not mention names)who are very pukka on sur but tend to sing relatively mechanically. Feeling can be engineered for a particular song but it is very difficult to teach it generically. Again, a natural occurance.
