But Antara was supposed to sympathize with someone who was pregnant with her husband's child, why?

Maya doesn't say anything to Rudra, she didn't get mad at Rudra for accepting the pillow, she put on a show of goodness

Antara calling Maya a kachra is sick but Maya calling Ananya gandagi is applauded

Antara torturing Maya is sick but Maya torturing Ananya is sukoon

Both women don't say anything to their husbands, both parade around the tag of Mrs Roy, both look down upon women who they think are coming between them and their husbands

This is deliberate character butchering of Maya by the makers. In the Sholon si sequence, she had acted out of character by going after Ananya with a fork to attack her just because Ananya's righteous anger made her baby Rudra cry. This is NOT MJS's character trait.

Also you are clutching at straws here, even if we consider this as a character trait, it still is not a perfect analogy to Antara/Maya.

I disagree with your saying its sexual harrasment. Sexual harassment is if Mj calls Maya and says "If you do not have affair with me i will throw you out of job or stop promotions etc". If MJ was sending her flowers she can reject it or inform HR/Seniors that MJ is harassing her. If it goes extreme she can go to womens cell outside or police since MJ is owner of company. Or just resign and join new company. If she does not do all this and falls in love no matter what he says law and HR will not consider it as sexual hararsment etc. Its more of affair that MJ and Manvi had not sexual harassment. Many women get proposals or flowers from colleagues. They just have to throw that flower in dustbin and put a word to HR or womens cell and move on. HR or police will handle creeps like MJ if hes after you for love etc. If you do not complaint anywhere law or HR or womens cell shall not consider it as sexual harassment. MJ did not threaten her with dismissal or kicking her out of mumbai etc to love him. Thats more of an affair foolish i agree but its an affair

Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when either:

  • The conduct is made as a term or condition of an individual's employment, education, living environment or participation in a University community.
  • The acceptance or refusal of such conduct is used as the basis or a factor in decisions affecting an individual's employment, education, living environment, or participation in a University community.
  • The conduct unreasonably impacts an individual's employment or academic performance or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment for that individual's employment, education, living environment, or participation in a University community.

where I live, what MJ did in the beginning was definitely sexual harassment. Manvi did not see it for what it was but that does not change the fact that it was a form of harassment. Just like Many women are regularly abused by their husbands but they think it is okay. Abuse is abuse and sexual harassment is sexual harassment even if the victim does cannot identify it,

Maanvi just wanted to show off her work ethic like a REGULAR schemegular person. Maanvi fell in love with MJ after he EMOTIONALLY abused her wit the fake story of Antara cheating on him. Maanvi was FORCED into loving MJ through predatory guilt. You don't tell a victim "well it's your fault too" like excuse me? And even if Maanvi acted on her crush and was stripping for MJ. MJ should've fired her. 🤪And yes then that would be Maanvi's fault because she would have sexually harassed MJ. That wasn't the case at all but I'm just saying. BUT, the shows is that their affair started from sexual harassment turned to predatory guilt turned to physical assault. MJ first sexually harassed Maanvi with all those nice gestures and pressing himself on her, and then the predatory guilt leaped in with him paying off her fathers medical bills and his fake suicide attempt. India won't progress as a society if we keep blaming victims. I'm sorry to say that, but it's true. Look at how the western world deals with rape victims and survivors of domestic violence, it's not the greatest but the empathy level is far more stronger than it is in India. Point is quit saying "Maanvi was stupid" If anything Maanvi did the right thing by exposing what happened to Antara. Antara can't be blamed either since she was abused and brainwashed by MJ. Yes she should've listened to Maanvi but she was also manipulated by MJ. Diya was also trapped by MJ and fixated on BROKEN promises MJ promised her. Again Diya has done a lot of sinister stuff, however she was also a victim of MJ's deceit.

it is internalized misogyny not only conservatism.

However she genuinely loved him, despite his age or marital status. MJ's age was not the problem, the problem was that he was married and manvi fell for his sob story. No one here said she was completely innocent but still, people empathized with her because she paid a very big price for being so naive. I don't like kicking people when they are already down and more then manvi, MJ deserves to be dragged for going after a girl young enough to be his daughter. Manvi screwed up but her feelings were genuine unlike MJ who trapped her to satisfy his ego. This is not an affair where a cunning girl went after her older boss, this is an affair where a predator simply charmed, lied then emotionally manipulated a dumb 20 year old. Then when she became a liability to him, he ripped her apart. This entire situation reminds me of the Bill Clinton and monica Lewinsky scandal. I'm sure there are many stories of foolish 20 something year olds having an affair with their powerful, older boss. There is a major imbalance of power in such situation. Monica only suffered public humiliation and ostracization, whereas manvi suffered a fate much worse. Again, I'm not denying that manvi was at fault but her foolishness should not be looked at in isolation, because there is a bigger picture here. Both parties are to be blamed in an extra marital affair but the problem is that society will let men get away with a slap on the wrist, while the women are dragged over the coals repeatedly and they will never be able to live it down.

well said. totally agree.

I think the best part of this show is that in some ways, many characters seem justified in their actions which inevitably hurts others.

Antara was not wrong to kick Maya out, because who should accept another woman in her life? At the same time, her actions led to MJ's vile and horrible treatment of Maya. Antara has the right to kick Maya out, but to call her "garbage" is fairly extreme, given that she was manipulated herself. I did not mind Maya's treatment of Antara, because even when she returned as Rudra's wife, Antara treated her like crap.

If anything, Maya was successful in showing Antara that she had become too used to MJ's torture. She may have had ulterior motives, but for a brief time, Antara stood up for herself and against MJ. That is more than anybody else in her family (Rishi, Rudra, daadi) was able to do. Maya herself was surprised how far Antara picked herself up, which means in some ways, Antara understood that both of them had been used and abused by MJ.

The bottom line is that MJ is a destructive weapon that set everyone's lives around him on fire, and everyone seems to be able to bond on their collective hate for him (Rudra, Antara, Maya).
