Teenage pregnancy and parenting

I have been watching this show from the beginning only, but what I couldn't understand is lack of narrative from Reyansh's side in this story, why only Pranati's problems are shown? Why is Reyansh shown as someone who shouldn't have left Pranati when she got pregnant?

Do we really expect young men to take on full responsibilities of a child?

Pranati is very unreal for me, the way she presented her pregnancy news to Reyansh was a bit too old school for me, are teenagers really excited for a child, especially in India when sex before marriage is a tabboo, and an unwed mother is treated like Tess of the D'Urbervilles, they are shunned by the society and their families do not support them

The show comes out as very preachy where Pranati was ready to be a mother without realizing that she needs to feed that child, there will medicinal expenses for both Pranati and her child, when she wasn't stable herself, when she didn't have a job, what was she thinking?

For me, Pranati had put all these hopes on Reyansh or her family, which is very unfair because the decision of deliveries the child was hers, the responsibility is hers, none can force Reyansh to be a father, he had a decision to make and he did it from his end. I do not believe someone is a jerk because he doesn't wish to be a father when he doesn't have a job

Reyansh was right when he said that he has a life ahead of him, he would have been exceedingly unhappy, Pranati would have been unhappy, child would have been unhappy living in this marriage and family without stability, where Reyansh would think about what his life would have been without these responsibilities

It was completely Pranati's right if she wanted to give birth to her child and it would have been fine, if she wanted to abort it, this show presents a very regressive point of view in front of me where a human doesn't have the right to decide if he is ready to take this responsibility or not, it's just very scary for me

Would love to read your point of view

Do you think once pregnant one has to take responsibility of a child?

Is it more important to give birth to a child than give them a happy life?

pranati is not irresponsible or immature like reyansh she is very practical and knows what she wants in life and her responsibilities if she decide to give birth to her daughter she knows that she is a single mother and needs to give neccessary needs to her daughter and she will work hard for it as she knows her daughter deserves all the happiness in the world even if she is 18 years old

she told reyansh that she is pregnant since he is the father and he has all the rights to know she thought he changed in her love and will accept responsibility of their baby but he refused and she never force him but just left the college and her decision to give birth

pranati is emotional there is a life growing in her and its her mistake that she trust reyansh and fully submit herself to him but its no fault of the baby why the baby suffer thus she decides to give birth furthermore a mother is always deeply attached to her baby whom grows inside her womb,my mom suffer a miscarriage and she was in depression some emotions cannot define and explain in words its above all that and abortion for most mothers including mine for them its a sin

coming to reyansh if you watch good newzz there is a scene b/w akshay-kareena where she tells him what in this 9 months a women goes through when they are pregnant and all men does is wow baby is here takes all the credit with no ounce of responsibility when wives are pregnant and in reyansh case abort it...how simple is that than why the hell sleep with your wives n gf when you can't take responsibilities or lure them into fake love so that the girls sleep with you or this is pretty normal why did not use a protection its now he is seeing his life ahead why didn't he see his life ahead when he sleeps with her didn't he know the consequences of it and what life he is talking abt he is still same enjoying his life with no responsibility and aim while pranati studied hard and became a teacher if her daughter was with her she would shower all the happiness

regards to being parents in teens if our grandparents thought abt it our parents would not have born as most at that era marry in their teens and become parents in their teens when they too don't know responsibilities of looking after a baby but they learn

such issues happens in wedlock too...fathers has no responsibility towards their baby and all dependable on mothers and some wants to abort it than girl baby kill it

wedlock or no wedlock these are situations happening in india and all over the world its a taboo i won't believe that it doesn't happen in india

getting pregnant out of wedlock is taboo but not killing girl child rapes and atrocities on womens

I believe that if you did a mistake take respobsibility of it and not run away from it pranati took the responsibility and face it at the age of 18 years old not run away from it like reyansh did

That's a very interesting point, and calls for discussion. Such matters are often morally ambiguous to give out a hard and fast judgment.

I feel, people are not angry with Reyansh bcoz of his refusal to be a parent, but rather bcoz of the manner in which he reacted to the situation. It is natural for a boy of his age at the time to not want a child. A child is, afterall, a HUGE responsibility. But the casual manner in which he laughingly dismisses the baby, talks of abortion -- as though abortion is similar to just popping a pill -- and struts off to finish his basketball match was downright insensitive IMO. However, we haven't yet seen Reyansh's side of the story completely. There might be something more there in the coming episodes.

But I agree with your one point on Pranati. I too found her reaction to the pregnancy slightly unrealistic. From my understanding, an 18 year old unmarried college girl coming from a middle-class family in India would probably be scared out of her wits if she finds out she is pregnant. She would be bogged down with worry of whether her parents would throw her out of the house, what her neighbours, relatives, classmates would think of her!

But here, Pranati is churning out in 1970s style: yeh humaari pyaar ki nishaani hain

Also, not to mention her oversight of the medical expenses, etc.

She deserves credit, though, for not bothering Reyansh afterwards (irrespective of the anger she feels within) and decides to keep the child at her own expense. What her mother did thereafter, was of course, not something she could have predicted.

Para 1 - How would Pranati do that at such an young age? She didn't have a degree or resumè to get a job, she was in college, people don't get job after PhD in India, then hiring a pregnant woman is lost cause as employers have to give them paid maternity leave, Pranati's outlook was not practical, it was emotional and very naive in my opinion.

Pranati without a child is a teacher, you know a person has to be a graduate in any field with mandatory B. Ed. Degree and CTET qualified to get a teaching job, it takes about 5 years of a person's life after 10+2, Pranati was in no way practical.

Para 3 - That's my issue with this show, Abortion Is a mother's right, it doesn't mean that her child is suffering or was at fault, she is just not able to give birth to a child. When a child is brought to this world, he deserves to be happy, he deserves to be taken care of, he deserves medicines and Food etc Why should a child suffer just because his mother was more emotional than practical?

Para 4 - In India, Age of consensual sex is 18 and legal age of marriage for men is 21, because sex does not mean someone is ready for a child. Reyansh couldn't have married Pranati as it would have been a crime under Prohibition of child marriage act.

This show could have encouraged protected sex but sadly, they are saying that girls should not abort children, boys should take responsibility when they are not ready, which is just too regressive

Para 5 - Child marriage is illegal, do you not know what children go through when they are forced into a marriage? Whatev our grandparents thought in their time has no relevance to today's India where 70,000 young girls die as a result of pregnancy and child birth. This view is absolutely wrong and encouraging child marriage

A human has every right to have sex and decide if he or she is ready to take responsibility of a child or not because if not ready then they are not only playing with their lives, the child would be miserable in a household without love and proper care.

But a child is not a mistake, they are not liability, people should be parents only when they want to be or the child won't receive proper care and love

I related to Reyansh's casual refusal more than Pranati's revelation. He is a jock, the football player, charmer etc He has sex and abortion is the only solution for pregnancy for him, that's his kind and I have seen guys like him throughout my life, it was very real, I have not seen someone like Pranati who didn't get shit scared for missing her cycles, it's just very unrealistic

Do you know the fear of missing periods on time? It's scary as hell and the relief that comes with negative pregnancy test 😂😂🤦‍♀️

I wasn't talking about relateability of Reyansh's reaction, but rather the morality of it. Of course, there might be a hundred boys like Reyansh around who react like that in real life. But it was insensitive.

@bold - That's what I said too. Pranati's reaction to pregnancy was unrealistic. Teenage girls in India generally freak out at such matters. Here, our heroine is being all 1970s.

Damn, the CVs!

I won't go into right and wrong because it is determined by people who are in the situation. If I draw a graph then where do you think Pranati's character will go? It will be a single straight line without a Y axis because she is one dimensional, Reyansh wasn't "right" back then and now he has a scope to grow, his character will go through various dimensions. He made a mistake, he will change himself for his child and mother of his child, that's the story which involves character growth, if he was like the other guy, there wouldn't have been a story

Graph is of course, a separate matter.

You wanted to know in your main post why people are tagging Reyansh as a jerk for his refusal to parent, and so I tried to clarify. 😊

IMO, it is not just his refusal which has irked people, but his overall casualness towards a serious matter like pregnancy. I am hoping though, that the CVs will turn it over and show us that he isn't as shallow as he is appearing to be now.

@bold - That is the typical Hindi serial problem. 😔ITV Heroines are mostly mahaan and their sole purpose in life is either to save her family from all villains and vamps (Kyunki, Kahaani, etc) or to "tame" the callous/heartless hero (Kutumb, Kesar, IPKKND, IB, DBO, etc). Pranati is no different.

Some day, I hope to see a female version of Reyansh as the female lead of a Hindi serial. As of now, such women are usually shown as vamps.😆
