Producer's statement
There seem to be multiple statements. Let's go through the timeline.
- Rumours begin that show is about to go off air and go digital
- Rumours begin that Jennifer is quitting and/or demanding a pay hike
- These rumours persist for 3 to 4 days until Sony seemingly releases a statement that nothing of the sort is happening
- The next day, Jennifer releases a statement saying that the show was discussed about going online, but she asked them not to do so and she isn't quitting
- Around the same time, the producer also says that the show is not going off air and is running its due course
Here's what I think happened in the background.
- Sony saw that Beyhadh 2 was its lowest TRP grabber show - time to pull it off air
- They tell the producer and cast that they want to move Beyhadh 2 to digital only to let it run its course and so that fans don't phadao them
- The producer starts negotiating as Jennifer refuses to go online
- Jennifer demands/asks for a pay hike if the show is going to go online only
- Sony decides to back-off, regroup, and find another way to get rid of the show - replace it early with Gul's show
- The statements are then released but have mixed messages - while it appears that the show is not going off air and will run its due course, the due course is being decided by the channel now, not the producer
The producer can say all he wants that the show will run 6 months, but Sony's message that the "show will meet its culmination as per channel" means that the moment Gul's show is ready, Beyhadh 2 will be pulled off. Now the only thing we all can hope for is that Gul's show isn't ready before time. The show started back on Dec 2. That means it's end date would be in and around the first week of May or so.
Call me a pessimist or a spoilsport or whatever, but I've been through too many of these "off-air" rumours with Sony to know that there's no way it was just a rumour. There's no smoke without fire. Especially in Sony's case.
