Why are the main money-spinners still the big-budget films only?

Everyone says this is the age of content, and perhaps that's true. However, why is it that projects visualized as larger-than-life films are still the biggest money-spinners, like War and Tanhaji, for example?

Is it because such films are “event films" i.e. the spectacular visuals and high production values together make the anticipated release a big event, resulting in bring more footfalls to the theatres? Or is there something more to it?

The main ingredients of a film which works should be the storytelling ideally. Or do people generally prefer watching something grand and spectacular, which they cannot experience at home or on the OTT platforms?

Higher the budget, higher the recovery expectations may be that's why people say it.

But money spinners are usually small films people don't expect to do this well. Ex. Tabu Weds many returns, Badhai Ho, Raazi , stree, URI etc. These films are actual money spinners.

I think content is king is a little bit of a stretch.

Content is good, but I also feel who is in the movie - also matters. It’s a combination of all of the elements that make a movie successful: genre, content and star cast primarily.

I think there’s still a large section of the audience that want to see interesting casting. That’s why War worked despite a not so new storyline.

That’s why there is so much excitement over the Ajay-Ranveer-Akshay 10 min segment in Sooryavanchi. People want to see that larger than life casting.

Big budget films also have bigger budgets for publicity, bigger screen count too..

They r talked about more so there is more excitement around release, good opening, more runtime and usually lack of competitors..

So either they r talked of as massive hits or massive flops. No in between for them
