Thappad is not about domestic violence

but re-considering one's standing in the relationship they are in

its much more profound subject than just violence

Sorry it goes over my head. 😂

Get a Divorce and move on. I saw the trailer and the whole heroic woman staying difficult marriages to please society. It all seems boring to me. Not just me if we go by collections at the moment.

Indian audience is not mature audience

They will not go and watch thinking movies or thought provoking movies

Even majority most educated will not watch such movies

They want romance, fight scenes, suspense, action and dance in movies

Anyways thapad and chapak are questioning society norms

Its a patrichial society

Even women are highly patriarchal mindset even educated majority

So this movie will flop only and so will chappak

I’m not even Indian an I take offense. Haha

So audience is not mature is only explanation ? It can’t be weaknesses a film might have ?

In all honesty, most of the theater going audience in India is poor to middle-class. They have enough problems in their day to day lives so they don't want to pay money to watch thought-provoking films about patriarchy or depressing dramas like Chhapaak. They might catch it later on streaming if they are interested in those movies.

They will only pay for fun, basic, easy-going movies where they can relax and chill and relieve some stress. Most people don't want to think at all. They just want to vegetate in front of the screen and watch some dumb comedy or explosions.

The other issue is that most people watch films as a family and in most families it's the father/husband who controls the purse strings and decides what's going to be watched. The male members of the family have zero interest in women's issues and won't agree to watch those films.

I agree its usually father, husband or boy friend who decides which movie to watch

girls do not have that much freedom to decide educated or not

unless only girls plan to go to watch it in their salary/pocket money which is less than 2-3% of movie going audience

i watched thappad its good better than kjos and aditya chopra movies those rom coms set in usa/london where colleges look so fancy

and here i am not talking only of thappad

many good films better films flop nowadays or even before in 50s/60s

many classic films were flop only pyasa, khagaz ke phool, jaane bhi do yaroon etc

do you think these movies also had no content

ppl do not like to see reality in movies

thapad is against patriarchy so ppl will not go and watch it

ppl watch entertainment not preaching and guilt feeling

thapad will damage egoes built over

exactly, because it is so easy for a woman in a deep patriarchal society to just get a divorce..i am sure she can easily get custody of her kids (if she has them), her rights and her share of the family property and it'd be very easy for her to then be financially independent .. #eyesroll

the tonedeaf nature of men on the internet is just hilarious...and the men who are triggered by a movie where women are asking for respect and are willing to walk out of a relationship ..OMG ..imagine if all women started asking for basic respect and won't put up with the crap they get from the male gender..

No I live in upstate New York.

I just think I can care about these issues but still think this film looks boring and stupid
