In all honesty, most of the theater going audience in India is poor to middle-class. They have enough problems in their day to day lives so they don't want to pay money to watch thought-provoking films about patriarchy or depressing dramas like Chhapaak. They might catch it later on streaming if they are interested in those movies.
They will only pay for fun, basic, easy-going movies where they can relax and chill and relieve some stress. Most people don't want to think at all. They just want to vegetate in front of the screen and watch some dumb comedy or explosions.
The other issue is that most people watch films as a family and in most families it's the father/husband who controls the purse strings and decides what's going to be watched. The male members of the family have zero interest in women's issues and won't agree to watch those films.
I agree with your analysis when it comes to movies called house full, and salman Khan movies etc...But I do think when movies like Kabir Singh and Sonu ki whatever become super duper hits, itâs more than what you are saying...Itâs loads and loads of guys who actually see themselves and relate to or want to be like the characters Kartik Aryan and Shahid Kapoor played...which is why they find even a 3 minute trailer boring, stupid and not worthy to watch.

It goes both ways. Sone critics and site look down upon certain genres because that doesn't fits the taste of red wine sipping crowd. They mock them.
YO PREACH!
This has been the crux of the issue the entire time. BOI just reps the other side of the coin. The mainstream media and soooo many freaking members here flat out call anything "massy" or "commercial potboiler" or "masala" as trash, crap, garbage etc from the word go even though those films resonate with significantly far bigger movie goers demographic, proven time and time again with the numbers backing em up. The common saying amongst those critics "only auto wallahs watch this type of movie" - the fack is that supposed to mean?!?! Sorry, we don't have the artistic values to notice the nuances and appreciate boring stuff like death in the gunj, lipstick under my burkha or pretentious Kashyap movies etc, which their family members don't even pay to watch in theatres.
On this particular topic, BOI has praised Kangu led TWM series to skies and also went out of their way to defend Manikarnika whereas they trashed Panga. They have praised many other female-led commercial movies in the past. More than "female-centric", it's the style of storytelling that BOI has issues with I suppose. They have an allergy to anything that doesn't tell the storyline in a desi or entertaining, commercial way. They call it the "European style" for whatever reason. They figuratively massacre thespians like Aamir Khan for popularizing this method of storytelling films in Bollywood. God knows how many articles they have made on Aamir for enabling this branch of European storytellers.

I wouldnât even say BOI is always 100% right in their statements. But they have the right to make them. Same way Vinod Chopra comes out and says rowdy rathore is thrash cinema to stay in the news đĽł
BOI has disdain for everything that is not masala blockbuster genre.
