It isnt shelved, rahul said that the release date has been pushed back, he didn't say it's not getting made anymore. Deepika said recently the movie is big and ambitious so it's going to take them much longer to make it

Oh ffs I hope they shelve it for good. Deepika is NOT Draupadi. She could never do her justice. None of the actresses we know today can play her correctly. The actress in the original Mahabharat series knocked it out of the park so well... When I think of Draupadi that's who I see. Can Deepika at least match up to her? Hell forking no. She has neither the looks, presence, nor acting chops to do it. And her dialogue delivery...omg *cringe*

It actually angers me that they're even planning on doing this 😕

I hope to God it is shelved and not merely postponed as the OP says. Deepika does not have the acting chops OR the looks to play Panchali.

But what Roopa Ganguli did in BR Chopra version was the Amar Chithra Katha Panchali, not Vyasa's heroine. The Panchali in the epic was physically strong, politically shrewd, intellectually powerful, and morally firm in addition to being sensually attractive. BR Chopra showed her as a beautiful and headstrong woman, nothing else.

Kangana finds producers for so many of her movies (including the big budget one like Manikarnika). Deepika who is commercially more successful than her, still struggling to find a producer. How come? Success alone is not the criteria.
