I'm saying people need to understand the difference between doing something out of habit and as a mistake you're genuinely sorry for.

And that is precisely the problem. As Sindhu said, a "decent" man would never make this "mistake" with his parents. Even indecent men, unless they're insane, wouldn't make this "mistake" with a boss. When they can think enough not to make this "mistake" where they could get into trouble, then slapping a wife ain't a mistake. It may be heat of the moment, but it happened because he felt it was within his rights to do so.

How common is it to slap your parents/grandparents/boss or anyone a man thinks worthy of respect? There's this thing : Whether an action is socially acceptable. It's not socially acceptable to hit all these people. It's ingrained in our psyche how we must not hit parents, grandparents, employers cause there will be consequences. Fracture these relationships forever. There's no going back. It's something you can't even imagine. BUT somehow patriarchal society has deemed it 'socially acceptable' to hit your wife. Somehow wives do not feature in that 'you can't raise your hand on them' list. 'In the heat of the moment' 'mistake' yada yada bs to justify it. Can someone hit their father/mother/bows and think they can maintain a functional relationship later. No. They won't ever forget that incident. The loss of respect

The man can make this 'mistake' fine. But then be ready to face the consequences. It's not upto the one hitting to decide what the person hit should feel. Whether they are 'still good human beings who made a mistake'. They lost that right the moment the first hit happened. They can feel 'oh so sorry' about their 'mistake' in court lol.

Completely agree with you, leave parents, boss even a man can hit his own grown up brother or sister concequences will be different..

It happened in my own family, my FIL hit his married sister in a spur of argument and she left the house crying immediately... Buaji told everyone even her brother died from the moment he slapped her and her husband called him worst man to hit a his wife even as a brother he has no right...They boycott my FIL and everyone scolded my FIL even though my MIL went to meet her and ask forgiveness they didn't forgive him for 12 years and came only when he died and still didn't forgive him..

So it's not easy in real life to forgive a slap..

Learn the concept of 'mistake' and 'forgiving'. My opinion would be the same if it was a girl slapping a guy. Don't get gender into everything.

A man I know just told me that it is only human to lose control in the heat of the moment..that should not lead to divorce..!

"THIS" is exactly the problem..losing your shit on your lover/ spouse is so normal in our country that people think - whats the big deal about it..a civilized person would know its wrong to lose your temper physically on anyone at all..!!

I am against rich people slapping poor cabbies also on the road in the form of road rage. Its sick..it makes me feel disgusted..

Nope. Doesn't work. We're discussing the movie where a man hits a woman. The concept revolves around gender.

Re: the pompous recommendation to learn the concept of mistake, I think you should take it. When some ONE 😂 can think twice where "mistake" would get ONE into trouble but wouldn't think twice before doing it to a SPOUSE 😂, it is no longer a mistake.

Trailer looks good.

First I also had this apprehension with the theme. Can one thappad change an equation?

I have watched Pak drama Dillagi. First I did not like was the way how female lead was forced into a marriage. But the thappad scene came much later. It did not make that impact.

But here, it makes an impact. Humiliation, disappointment and frustration. (Still I cannot answer myself. Would I have felt the same way if it was at home? Is public humiliation is more important to me than a person disrespecting his relationships? Many questions I cannot answer).

It is the ending line which is hard hitting. (This made me realise the things which I had kept ignoring). Sure, we might not have answers to all. Same with those females, who have gone through that. They would have so many other factors to consider. Financial security, children etc. At least, the trailer made us ask some inconvenient questions in our beliefs. That’s an achievement.
