Is box-office pull equal to stardom or is there more to it?

Is stardom just box-office pull or something else? For e.g. - Kangana may be a star but she doesn't have box-office pull. Ayushman has box-office pull but is not as big a star as Ranbir/Ranveer. How exactly is the equation formed?

Also, Aamir Khan has bigger box-office pull than SRK but SRK is a bigger star.

So, is stardom consolidated by other factors as well?

Stardom helps an actor to last for longer while box-office pull depends on how much successful the actor's movie biography has been. Stardom is not only based on an actor's box office performance, but also based on how much the audience loves the performance of the actor and admires him as well as following him, his/her awards achievements are also included. Yes there was a time when box office pull majorly depended on stardom of an actor. Take Sallu's movies as an example, even a decade ago audience used to crowd on the theatres just to see his masalas regardless of how much crappy the storyline used to be. Same goes for many of SRK's movies too. But now the audience is smarter and chooses to watch movies according to the content. But yes still there is something called box-office pull. That's why audience chose to watch Bala over Ujda Chaman, coz Ayushmann's movies have been doing splendid lately which made the audience confident that it would include enough masala over the other one.
