Nothing beats Indians in self-loathing and trashing their own people.

Who do you think are the biggest stars of Hollywood? Do you think non-gimmick female-led movies end up becoming blockbusters there? It's still the Rock, Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Leo, Daniel Craig, Robert Downey, Ryan Renolds, etc. who rule the roost.

The most bankable female star is Sandra Bullock. She's the only legitimate box office draw. Scarlett Johansson is popular but she's not a major draw outside of Marvel.

It's not just India. Sadly.

True. It's very funny people blindly start blaming bollywood/India that it's male dominated before even checking other industries/countries like Hollywood. It is what it is. It's in poor taste to call only Indians or Bollywood are like that.

I agree that Indian audience as well as Bollywood as an industry isn't yet ready for quality cinema. Plight of films like Mard ko dard nahi hota shows that but. It's not like content driven films never work. Also just because a movie is based on a sensitive social issue doesn't mean it is a good movie.

Stop telling audiences are stupid as a female lead movie is bombing.

I guess all these actresses aren't hardworking female stars who act in content driven movies..Kareena-Sonam even gave a hit in a non content driven movies..but these actresses don't count coz they aren't Deepika

That's because bollywood's primary audience is male dominated.

Then shouldn’t they want to watch women? Why do men always want to watch men? Never understood that.

Because it inflates male ego. Women centric movies are mainly on women empowerment & male ego can't handle that well. It's satisfying to rather watch a macho male achieving heights with his brilliance & slapping around his girlfriend / wife 🥱

Don't forget about movies like Veere Di Wedding and Neerza. Those were women-centric films but still the audience went to the theatres to watch the films.

Just coz Chhapak is not doing well, you can't give it such tag claiming that it didn't do well just coz the lead was a female. That's nothing but a lame excuse
