If I have understood the rules of the task, the scientist had two options.

1. Fight till the end and make your team win

2. Release the robot and pack your bags

Sid chose to release Sana was an intelligent move. The task wasn't going anywhere. It was going to be rejected for many reasons including violence. Plus, last time he didn't do well as a captain.
