Why actor's name always comes before the actress in credits?

Like in Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, Ranveer's name came before Deepika despite she being a bigger 🌟 than him during that time. Who stole the show doesn't matter. The biggest 🌟 always gets the top billing. Some other examples are Imran Khan's name coming before 🐈 in MBKD or Ranbir's name coming before 🐈 in APKGK. Even when the actor is a debutante and the actress has done some films before him, still the actor gets the top billing. Little things but still sexist.

Its about the brand that sells. Amitabh was bigger brand than the movie itself that's why it was Amitabh in and as Kaalia/Shehenshah/Coolie/ Don and so on.

But the TM isn’t talking about the bigger brand names....S/he is talking about the startups like RS, RK, Imran etc whose names appeared before the bigger stars at that time like DP and Katrina....

Not always. If you see the poster for Haseen Dilruba, Tapsee's name is above Vikrant's.

It's not with every movie, TM needs to watch more movies. Many movies give credits as per alphabetical order. And a lot of times, actress's name is before actor's too, a few examples given by someone in the earlier comment.
