Rani still does not get it?

In all her interviews for Mardani thus far

She is saying the same thing she said in Roundtable last year which got her a lot of flak

Primarily she is laying the utmost focus on self defence for women to escape harrassment or more so rape..

Why is her brain not comprehending a simple fact..when will the onus be on those who are the perpetrators..why should there even be a situation to learn defence..

She is turning a blind eye on that and has all the to-do things only for women/those who are attacked

It has been a pain to sit through her interviews for Mardani promotions..the one with anupama particularly..she is so thick brained and ill informed on this..one would wish she just acts and not gives such interviews

We can't change society or ppl unless they want to bt we can change ourselves to fight them, what's wrong if she is suggesting self defence..Do u think a rapist gone change his ways hearing rani's two cents? Bt if a girl decide to learn self defence that's good..

wait till somebody asks her what martial arts babies will do when they get raped

Right now we are far far away from a world where the perpetrators would understand anything ...they won't .. especially the ones who belong to the lower socio economic echelons of the society...so we gotcha learn self defence methods shayad ya carry pepper spray etc

I remember over-hearing this discussion in my himalaya trek between a pastor and his team member, the young boy of 15 years asked why is christianity against self-defense (his school was offering the clourse, but he was not allowed to take it up by his parents).....so his pastor's reply was that by learning self-defense, you are telling god that you don't trust him to protect you..... just trust in god and he will protect you against whosoever think of attacking you........

While I agree with trusting in god part....but connecting the two things is absurd....... same way I feel, its important to teach the society what is right or wrong........but we cannot just rely on that.......it will take time.....maybe decades.......till then what........ as of now the immediate need is to put a fear in the minds of these perpetrators that they cannot just get away with it............ imagine the rotten mind of these perpetrators who don't shy away from murdering the victim, just to satisfy their lust and whatever disgusting need they have......

They need some fear in their mind to stop them from doing so........fear for their lives is the only solution for now.......otherwise even imprisonment isn't stopping them, as they know they can be out on bail or max serve a few years and get free to have a life......... whereas the victim is either traumatized for life or have to sacrifice her life.......

disclaimer : I dont know if christianity is really against self-defense, that was a over-heard true discussion....

And most importantly, learning self defence is also believing in God given physical strength.

a 50 year old pastor was telling the young guy that learning self-defense meant he isn't trusting Jesus to protect him......... and that pastor actually preaches at least 400-500 church goers.......

yea maybe as you said, that pastor understood it wrongly, cause there are so many christian countries that promote self-defense....... unfortunately he is teaching this improper education to youth of that church.......

Rani Mukherjee gets it, she lives in a practical world while others live in an ideal world.

While I agree that it takes decade to change mindset but self defense also is not solution at all. You can defend yourself from one guy considering he doesn’t have any weapons. But what about 4 men. When you are outnumbered no self defense act would work. Are you going to teach self defense to girls of age 10 years who are getting raped everyday.

Safety of women is governemnt a job. Changing system and laws wouldn’t take anything more than a political will. We need police reforms where police follows standard procedure when somebody comes to report and have quick response. No state governemnt has used their Nirbhaya funds which were given to increase safety. We Need more police patrolling in areas with less population, more cctv cameras and people who are monitoring these cameras. And one of the most important is public transport. Cities which are fast developing like Hyderabad should have public transport like metros, buses everywhere. And finally judiciary reform with more judges to make every case fast.

All this doesn’t need decades but just political will. Instead of asking strict laws and encounters of rapist, it is important to strengthen the system. Mindset change will happen simutanously with education but this system needs to change fast and it can be done without few months of our politicians want it and if we put pressure on them. Pressure should be about quick fixes like capital punishments for these but pressure should be on improving system and putting everything in place.
