Most responses are not taking into account these are two different things..
Women learning self defense is one thing
And telling women to learn self defense as a response to rape is a separate thing.
the first one is having an extra skill with the hope that it works for you just god forbid you may have to use it...
the second is saying the responsibility of dealing with rape is the woman’s, shifting the onus from perpetrator. Rape is cultural in our country not just a crime- it’s more important to create societal change in our men and obviously women like Rani.
To me Rani represents that woman who is highly privileged and therefore doesn’t feel the need to understand this nuance.
It’s the same as girls should stop wearing short skirts, not stay late at night, not walk down those streets, not talk to men, not party, and haan learn self defense. This list of dos and donts for women just keeps increasing.
My cousin sister when leaving for party was told by my uncle that she should not go to parties, boys will rape her and she turned around and said all of you men tell the boys not to rape...humei bahut bata diya kya karna kya nahi
So to answer the post Q - No she doesn’t get it...and sadly many don’t
