That is more like an asshole blaming something, to escape from punishment.
I mean, tomorrow I will murder someone, and than say, hey but in movies heroes kill villains, so I also killed him because of that.

No, in movies, people who murder get punished. Or at least it is explicitly shown that it is wrong. The ones that don't show it's wrong and glorify it are problematic. That is why they need to be called out and rightly so.
I was rewatching DDLJ ka pretentious movie review. When that good for nothing creep like raj Malhotra is hailed as king of romance and that film is celebrated as the epitome of romance.. ye haal toh hoga hi..

You're south indian right??
You do know many South Indian movies, where hero kills villains without any legal stuff following.
Sorry but some idiot taking inspiration from that and commiting crime, is his/her individual stupidity, not the problem of the movie.
Lets take the case of this self fcuking lawyer, he is trying to blame Bollywood movie for the action of an individual. Sorry but that is an fcuking pathetic excuse for someone's perversion. Should I be blaming Veere Di Wedding for some girls smoking or drinking? No because drinking and smoking among women is common much before even cinema was born. Just because that movie showed it is okay, doesn't mean it inspired people.
Same way if you have massy movies showing stalking as some sort of romantic act, same way you have massy movies like Vedalam which shows it is wrong. A stalking person will stalk regardless he watched Raanjhana or he watched Vedalam.
Sorry, but this case, is like oh I raped a girl, because she was wearing a skirt.
What do they mean by avoids jail? Did he get acquited? 😲
No they don't .
Majority of our films like 90 out of 100 have heroes who are do gooder, helps poor , fight against crime and corruption, save women and children, is honest and so many things , never see this happening in society or someone who do good gets films as influneces.
It's only the bad thing that everyone blame media , it's remind me oldies blaming Western culture for ruining our values.

We people lack good education, and learn from pop culture. Basic decency and etiquettes are not taught at most schools - in fact most boys and girls are not even allowed to talk to each other. But suddenly puberty happens and then we don't know how to deal with our feelings and urges. Thanks to our conservative culture, we obviously cannot discuss such things with parents and our education system also failed us, which is when we turn to mass media, and are deeply influenced by it. So it is imperative that these films treat their messaging responsibly.
That idiot has committed a crime because heroes he looks up to also do it and don't face any consequences for it. It is normalized. Even 'heroes' who save the society from the bad guys also indulge in stalking and sexual harassment, so some naive person may think it's okay.
This is why it's deeply disturbing to see audience cheer a hero when he is stalking a girl. It is not normal. This shouldn't be encouraged.
"A stalking person will stalk no matter what" - Not necessarily true. A stalking person may want to stalk but becoming aware of the fact that he may be pushished for it might discourage him from pursuing it. That's exactly the reason why we have law and order. Say murder were no longer a punishable offence, don't you think more people would become murderers? In the same vein, stalking would also reduce if people realize it is wrong/a punishable offence. And our films have the moral responsibility to do that.

Stalking is a punishable offense, most of the movies where the stalking is so called glorify usually has hero getting an earful and learning his way, and changing for better.
In this case, it is clearly the impotency of that judge who acquitted a person based on a mambo jumbo. Okay for a moment I will even agree, yes it is the movies which made that person commit stalking, but why did that stupid judge take that excuse of let him free.
Yes movies shouldn't glorify stalking or any other things which are deemed offensive legally, because (a) they're cringe worthy, (b) they don't really make movies better, but movies influencing society is a hysterical panic and trying to find a scape goat for stupidity of stupid humans, when the core issue is the impotency of law and order, apart from how society thinks. Why are movies only brought up when something bad happens, why not when something good happens? Because society needs a scape goat, when core problem is with the society itself.
In this case, the person or his lawyer is clearly diverting the issue, by blaming it on something who can't be dragged to court.

@Bold - like every Bollywood romance ever since the 60s where the hero not only got away with it, the girl got reprimanded most times for rejecting advances?
Fast forward a bit, and we have the acid-throwing culture.
Or where the Western clothes-wearing, job-seeking heroine is considered contrary to Indian ethos?
Fast forward a bit, and we have women in skirts being considered fair game.
Movies build culture. Culture influences society.
Movies are also a business. They know they'll mint more by catering to the lowest common denominator.
A vicious cycle of movies reaffirming existing brutality which then assures itself this is exactly how it's supposed to be.
To pretend otherwise is willful blindness. Up to you, of course.
Media does affect the collective. How long till people understand this simple thing and be aware of its influence?
