Why outrage over depiction of slums in Bollywood - Page 2

The only point of contention I have is the revulsion or outrage that privileged India shows whenever a filmmaker chooses to show slum/poor man's life in India. It sort of creates this invisible shaming atmosphere, almost a pressure that NO do NOT make movies on the slums. Make it on middle class or money bags. Has anyone else noticed this pressure?

If you are one such person that is outraged by angrez log kya sochenge, I'd ask you to think about the slum dwellers as well. They are fellow Indians after all!

One: For the person who said slum life isn't all bad, have you tried it😊? Forget the leaking roofs, the lack of security for women at night, the not having enough to eat, the not having a place to pee, the crime?

The shame shouldn't be that film makers (in India or the west) depict it. The shame is that slums exist. That millions of people live in that level of poverty.

Two:

Zoya Akhtar - get mocked as making movies about rich people only.

Ayushman Khurana - gets mocked as making middle class movies only.

Pick any director focused on the poor.

There is always a certain section of audience which cries about it.

I am a bit unclear about what exactly we are discussing here.

- the fact that the depiction of slums in films is inauthentic?

- audiences/filmmakers do not like authentic depictions of slums?

- or both?
